This Year's Model Updates:

Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

  • Its great.......but - 2001 Honda Civic

Yes, its fun to drive and the gas mileage is wonderful, BUT Ive had to replace the radio twice and now my air conditioning in not working. Shouldnt happen to a car thats just one year old! I wont buy another Honda.

  • No Heat On My Feet - 2001 Honda Civic

Overall its a good car, but Honda has been less than helpful with service. I have been called a problem by my dealer and told by Honda corporate that having no heat come out of the floor vents isnt a problem (I live in Buffalo,NY - its a problem). So if you want to stay warm in winter, look elsewhere.

  • Disappointed 15yr Honda owner - 2001 Honda Civic

I bought this car in March 2003. I am the only owner of it. I have had 3 recalls and 1 MAJOR TSB (the CVT needed replacing and no one told me--i found out on my own, luckily in time!). Car drives like all Hondas ive owned (3). Very spry and quick for its 117HP. Lousy reliability this time around, a few service issues (eg. cruise light broken and badly repaired), the air condition button keeps falling off (?!), and the in-dash CD-changer gets stuck constantly. Bad Honda! Im buying a Mazda soon.

  • Excellent economy car - 2001 Honda Civic

My second Honda. Never had any major problems. The only problem my dealer discovered with my 2001 model was a leaky shock absorber in the front which was replaced under warranty and a tendency for the transmission to jump out of the second gear which as apparently addressed by my dealer with an improvement kit but is still happening from time to time. Great on gas milleage.

  • Not as well built - 2001 Honda Civic

I have had a few Hondas and now have 2. This 2001 Civic has more wind noise than any other. The doors dont fit as well as in the past so more wind noise is generated. The dealer has not been able to do anything in all the times Ive returned it.

  • A car with attitude - 2001 Honda Civic

The 2001 Civic coupe is a reliable car that is fun and somewhat sporty. It is sensible but still has its attitude.

  • Reliability and dependability - 2001 Honda Civic

The high gas mileage (35-40 mostly highway) is the main reason I bought this Civic LX, also because of safety crash tests. This years ridiculously high gas prices make me laugh at Expeditions and other big SUVs. Reliability has been perfect, replacing only a few filters, at 99000 miles. I still have original brake pads! Ill need a new timing belt soon.

  • Great first sporty economic car - 2001 Honda Civic

I am very picky with cars. This was our second car in the US, we had it for 49000 miles, until the last day we loved its look, very reliable, car exterior is a little flimsy can be dented very easily. Very stingy in gas (+). For a supposedly sport car performance is low. Extremely uncomfortable for me 6’2”. Rear seats are almost useless. Suspension is jumpy and uncomfortable. Overall definitely recommended.

  • City Car - 2001 Honda Civic

The Civics an excellent city car- for short distances and especially for city driving, the car really is the best out there. If your driving habits include long distances, high speeds, or long commutes, then forget it. The noise levels above 75mph are ridiculous, the car is easily deflected at highway speeds by trucks and crosswinds, and the seats arent that comfortable (no lumbar support). For short hops, though, none of these problems are large enough to be noticeable. Spend some quality time with the car, however, and you notice those things plus the fact that the suspension (on 01s at least) is too soft for optimal control.

  • Nice Car - 2001 Honda Civic

Hey, its a Honda. It works and works well. The only problem that I had was the radio frequently forgetting its anti- theft code. Honda then replaced the radio/CD player under warrantee.
