This Year's Model Updates:

Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

I brought this car brand new. Right now, this car has 132K miles. I never have any mechanical problem with this car. I usually take this car for long road trip. For instance, I would drive from Camden, Maine to Key West, Florida with this car. I usually get 42 MPG on highway (I-95). 40 MPG from Pennsylvania to Kentucky (Appalachian mountain man) No one cuts me off. I am usually the one that does that. Now, this car has really small engine, but timing is the key, you gonna know when to press the gas pedal and turn your blinker when you are doing 80 mph on the highway.

  • Love this car! - 2001 Honda Civic

I bought this car in 2003 at a Ford Dealership. It was so cute. It is fun to drive, and have had NO mechanical failures. The only thing is that it goes through headlights about 4 times a year. Also, other vehicles have no respect for this little beauty. Every day, some one is cutting me off. Best car I have ever owned, I will definitely buy another Honda. My VIN begins with a 1, so it was made in America, my friends Ford was made in Canada...go figure. Husband prefers driving it just because of the gas mileage.

  • Best Car Ever! - 2001 Honda Civic

I bought my car used about five years ago with 42,000 mi. I now have 172,000 miles and it is still going strong. I have delivered pizzas in it for almost five years, and have driven it to 40 states, some more than once. I did have some major transmission problems at about 140,000 miles and had to pay $1750 to fix (I hear this is a common problem with this model year). Besides this though, I have NEVER had to fix ANYTHING apart from normal maintenance (tires, brakes, battery, spark plugs). And I mean NOTHING. It has never left me stranded- even when the tranny went out it made it to the mechanic. This car also gets GREAT gas mileage- between 35-40 mpg. You cant do much better than this car!

  • Nice for Economy Car - 2001 Honda Civic

This has been a nice little car. Performance is great. The EX goes 0- 60 in 8.5 seconds, which is excellent for an economy car and is comparable to much more powerful cars. Rather harsh ride is an acceptable tradeoff for great handling and not out of line for an economy car. Funny thing I see here is the transmission that so many people complain about was built in Japan.

Overall this has been another outstanding Honda (5th one). Top notch dependability and good performance. Front seat is finally comfortable for 6ft+ adult. Only negative has been a couple of paint quality issues and a rattle in the sunroof area that wont appear when the car is in for service. With a repaint in a few years this one should be good for 300K miles!

Roomy for a compact car. Family of four (two car seats) fit just fine. I was a former Nissan Sentra Driver and the Honda blows it away.

  • Do some of you test drive first??? - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

I was just curious to know if the people who wrote about how much noise the civic makes ever test drove the car before buying???? It only makes sense that you would, and then to not notice that it supposedly has horrible noise issues???? I suspect some posts may be from the same people.

  • Wow- if I were in college - 2001 Honda Civic

This little car has taken me everywhere, anywhere. Im USAF, and Ive driven this car coast to coast twice. Right now, she and I are in South Korea. Before we left, I had her totaly checked over. Comments from the professional mechanic: "Your car is nearly brand new..." (2007). She has been great. If the hybrid got a lot more milelage I would think about switching. Until then, Ill see you in Seoul! Mike

  • Very Reliable Car - 2001 Honda Civic

Bought this car because I wanted a reliable ride and that is exactly what I got. It does have rattles as other reviews point out and thats annoying, but that is about it. It rides nicely and I get 38 highway and about 29 to 30 in the city. Not too bad. The ride is extremely smooth. My next car will most likely be another Honda.
