Overview & Reviews
Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.
- Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
- Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

Super Commuter - 2001 Honda Civic
By popeye - January 27 - 10:00 amGreat commuter car. Excellent gas milage. Seats are difficult to adjust for driving comfort and lack support. Had a couple quality issues with interior trim items. Also a faulty door switch on drivers side.

2001 Honda Civic - 2001 Honda Civic
By Iwannaarsx - January 10 - 10:00 amI love my civic, i would like anyone else want more horsepower. There are a bunch of things i could say good about the car so im gonna say some bad stuff. The sheet metal is too thin in some places, changing gears from first to second above 4500rpm will grind, the car gets dings really easy. These are just small things i would tell anyone who wants a good car and great fuel econmy to get this car. 70000 miles and still going strong no problems.

A car you always have to think about... - 2001 Honda Civic
By vinbone - October 28 - 2:00 amDont be fooled by Hondas claim that youre buying a car "you never have to think about". Quite the opposite. Both of my 2001s had a multitude of problems, small some large: (1) Transmission major downshift and late shift issues, fluid burn, power loss. (2) Rotors need cut every 10,000 miles. (3) Gas gauge reads incorrectly. (4) Window motor locks up. (5) Fog lights crack repeatedly (poor design, lenses too thin). (6) Front end vibration. (7) Call pulls to right, even with alignment & new tires. (8) Front bumper and roof moulding issues. (10) Rear brake squeak. (12) Gas mileage 6 mpg worse than claim.

Solid - 2001 Honda Civic
By wildkard58 - October 5 - 10:00 amThis is my familys 5th Honda (4 Civics) and we are not disappointed. We knew what we were getting. Of course we could have saved $3K-$4K buying a Sunfire\Cavailier or Hyundai but the resale, reliability and quality is not even close to the Civic. Not a problem from day one. For road trips, this may not be the ideal car but itll be good on gas. On the performance side the 1.7 4 banger is lacking a bit in power and performance compared to competition (Mazda3, etc.). Just imagine the Civic with the Accord or CRV 4 cyclinder engine.....are you listening Honda?

Problems, problems problems.... - 2001 Honda Civic
By nicoleb - October 3 - 12:52 amI wrote an article a year ago or so, but i really want to warn anyone looking into buying this year of civic. Dont. This car is not abused but somehow i have managed to go through 3 sets of struts, new wheel bearings, a new front bushing, my air conditioning is going out, the TRANNY BLEW @ 100k that alone was $2000, the air bags suddenly stopped working, it sputters at stop lights. I have two loans out on this car. one for the actual car and one to fix it, and I am only one of the few that this happened to and i am mad. if i can persuade just ONE person to rethink buying one, i will be at least partially satisfied...

Reliability - 2001 Honda Civic
By mdgrrrl - July 23 - 10:00 amWhen it was time to retire my 1990 Accord, I knew I was going to buy another Honda because of their reliability. Unfortunately, the new Accords were out of my price range, but I fell in love with the redesigned Civic. It doesnt have the pick up of the Accord and it feels less substantial on the road but I was looking for a car that would be on the road 99.99% of the time, get good gas mileage, and protect me in an accident, not a zippy car that was "fun" to drive. I definitely got exactly what I was looking for and I have never regretted the decision to buy.

Best used car ever - 2001 Honda Civic
By 007 - May 29 - 7:08 pmI bought my civic used with 73,000 miles. I drive 37,000 miles a year as a courier and am amazed by the low maintenance 220,000 miles later I am just now replacing the clutch and struts. This is the most serious maintenance Ive had yet, besides the normal wear and tear of brakes. I am averaging still an astonishing 40 miles to the gallon.

2001 Transmissions Have Ruined Honda - 2001 Honda Civic
By tmspiege - April 21 - 9:58 amI received this car willed from my great-uncle and have treated it well for 6.5 years. Ive been diligent in regular maintenance. Then, out of the veritable blue, my transmission suffered a catastrophic failure en route to work two days ago. The auto tranny would not engage into gear and the engine would simply tach up with no acceleration when I hit the gas. I called Honda USA to get them to extend a goodwill repair to me, but they are refusing. Im looking at a $2000 repair for a manufacturing defect...and Hondas not willing to admit the mistake or provide the customer support to alleviate the cost to me. 2001 transmissions across every model have been notorious for this sudden failure.

Civic LX Sedan - 2001 Honda Civic
By neoneo22 - March 21 - 10:00 amThe only two bad things about the civic are the back seat comfort and the wind noise. The back seat has plenty of room, but having to carpool 50 miles a day, I get plenty of comments about there not being enough support back there.
