This Year's Model Updates:

Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

This is the second time I have leased a civic and I have enjoyed the cars. They are very depandable, and most important to me they do not waste a lot of gas. If you are looking for a small, inexpensive, nice looking car.....this is the car for you.

  • Whats WRONG with the TRANSMISSION,Honda? - 2001 Honda Civic

I have had my civic for two years. I bought a civic because I wanted reliability. I have already had the transmission lock up on me three times,i.e.,it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear. The delership first replased the solenoid, when it happened again, they replaced the entire transmission. When it locked up a third time they went back and replaced the solenion, again! The delership never gave me a good explination. All is running O.K. for now, and besides this ongoing tranny problem, my civic is A good small car. I was just expecting a little more from A Honda.

This is the second Honda that I have owned. They are great, reliable and fun cars. The only problem Ive had with both of them is that the windshield is extremly fragile. Both cars had broken windshields from small rocks. Also, quarter and door panels are easily dented. A shopping cart can do a number on a little Honda! No dent resistence here.

  • From 94 to 2001/1994 much better year - 2001 Honda Civic

Had this car for a year and traded up to the Accord. The 2001 Civic had a suspension change (2000 ?) Rougher ride, Noiser ride. Not impressed. Dealership was awful, did not buy my Accord through them.

  • The Other Side of the New Honda Civic - 2001 Honda Civic

the alignment of the door and the window. It rattles . I especially HATE the rear suspension! I couldnt believe how soft and annoying it was ! But after a 22000mile abuse, I kind of improve this problem. The wind noise is terrible, you can even hear the rain drop from drivers window. Well, it is nature. I know. From time to time, I will push my car to nearly 90 or 100 miles in Pennsylvania. Get rid of the sluggish and jerky Firestone. I felt the change as soon as I replaced them with two pairs of Goodyear HP. But then, it costs me another 4 hundred something. This car is ok overall. Not that bad.

This 2001 Civic Si (Canada) was built on a Friday of a long weekend! I have owned 3 other Hondas/Acuras and they have all been great and reliable cars. It makes a different noise every day. The worst is a popping, crackling noise when you turn right, the interior fan changes speed at its own will, the wind noise from the doors is brutal. It blows around on the highway, and does not drive straight. It has been in 7x in 3 months for warranty work, and 2 dealers (the first couldnt figure it out). Im going to sell it, I found a solid 98 5spd EX Accord that drives a lot better. I think this car was built on Friday of a long weekend!

  • Durable and Reliable - 2001 Honda Civic

I got this car in 08 with 120k on it. Its now at 180k and its still running without having done any major work on it. Just oil changes, a few batteries, and a new set of tires. Every year I spray the metal parts down with lube, and so far, Ive had some issues with the axle rusting, the muffler completely rusted off, and someone was able to use a crowbar to just pry off my passenger door handle to get into my car. Overall, its been a good first car, but Im excited to upgrade to a new Civic.
