This Year's Model Updates:

Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

  • Same old, same old - 2001 Honda Civic

Same old, same old reliable Honda. Overall, I would have to rate this new Civic as excellent, as all Honda products tend to be. Maybe a bit bland in some areas, but fun to drive and very rliable. Some cost-cutting is evendent in the newer models however...but just go down to a GM dealership and sit in one of their POSs (any...Chevy to Cadillac) and youll think you just went to heaven.

This is a good car that is reliable. Its great on gas and looks nice. Build quality could be a little better. But overall i love the car.

An all-round good car, fun to drive with good mileage. Could be more compfortable on long trips. Road & wind noise too loud. Scheduled maintenance is expensive & my Service dept has been caught padding bills by doing un-necessary work thats not part of whats called for in manual.

  • nice car, but should be better - 2001 Honda Civic

the car has 34 km in city and hwy Toronto Driving. had to replace the windshield because of a rock left a crack half way across the window. cost us $250Can dollars. the new glass looks so clear! i would recommend looking around and consider civic as a last option. my bro bought this car because of all other people having this same car. he doesnt know much about cars. was pulled to pay more for hondas reputation. dont buy a civic cuz of looks because thats what my bro also did. and i hate him for that. if it was my choice i would be getting an hyundai elantra GT. lots of standard stuff for cheaper and i dont care if its not a honda.

This is my second Civic, and a tremedous improvement of the interior noise of the 99 LX sedan. In fact, I have to sell one of my civics, and I would much rather keep the 01 EX, even for the extra $5K. For the first two years the acceleration was sluggish, and the brakes required alot of force, I felt like I was diving, however, after driving 30,000 miles and a brake job, things are much improved, perhaps needed a good break in period. Long distance trips are very comfortable, and the car is extremely stable at fast speeds (no spoiler needed). 6 speakers is indispensible, and I have no interest in replacing the standard stereo.

Replaced a 97 Civic LX for this lease return. Styling, space, interior conveniences and power/tranny combo seem better than the 97. Suspension not as responsive & sone additional road noise than the 97. Overall a fantastic West Coast Canadian commuter. Very pleased. PS Still own a 90 Accord EXR for longer road trips.

I am having a great experience with my 2001 Honda Civic. To date I have had only minor electrical issues other than routine maintinence. It has 100,000 miles in just under 3 years and is purring like a kitten. The only gripe that I have is that the seats lack lumbar support and are very uncomfortable. I drove my last Civic (1989) to 200,000 miles and plan to do the same with this one!

I have had my Civic for almost 2 years now. Overall, I am satisfied with the car. Its certainly no Lexus, but I didnt pay the price tag for a Lexus either. I have had a few minor problems that were covered under the warranty. Buy this car if you want something that is reasonabally comfortable, reliable, and efficient. If you are looking for luxury and performance, avoid it all costs. :)

  • Great car but that CVT tranny - 2001 Honda Civic

Love the miliage.Easy controls.Timeless style that will look great for years!I had the car for 2 years and not a glitch to cry about except for the CVT tranny. The starter clutch assembly was worn! Never abused or pushed to the limit! Just regular driving! Strange. Honda replaced the clutch under warranty. Overall quality is top notch! I know the HX is hard to find, but I think it found me! I walk into a dealer and there it was! In the show room! The dealer said that many people who dont know any better, dont like it because it has no power windows! So what! I installed after market power windows! Problem solved! I highly recommend the HX! Thanks Honda!
