This Year's Model Updates:

Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

  • No worries - 2001 Honda Civic

I bought this car new in 2001 and have only changed tires, oil and wipers. Not a single thing has needed repair on this car. I wrecked a civic SI and bought this car with the insurance check. I drive it very hard and it just wont break. Great car.

  • Bullet proof reliable - 2001 Honda Civic

I bought my 2001 civic couple lx new. I bring my baby to the Honda hospital for every oil change and inspection required. The only thing Ive changed on my car in 8.5 years are wiperblades, not even a lightbulb. The suspension isnt the best, feel every bump pretty much, but completely bullet proof car.

  • Honda quality shows.....most of the time - 2001 Honda Civic

Honda is known for its great vehicles, and the 2001 Civic is no exception. Except: there are so many rattles on this thing its crazy. I was always sure not to buy a first-year model, but it happened, and Im noticing why now. Also, the transmission hunts for a gear around 1500 RPM, but I blame the small engine for that, which is very smooth along with said transmission.

  • Great value - 2001 Honda Civic

This is a great value. I get 30 mpg every tank, city driving. Yes, there is wind noise, the ride is not as smooth as previous models; but, no mechnical problems. The radio has been replaced twice. I test drove an Accord and I felt crammed in the driver seat; the Civic is just as roomy. I paid 14,800 US dollars for this car, and I feel I got a great value.

  • I love Lucy - 2001 Honda Civic

My cars name is Lucy. It is an easy drive, handles well, has lots of room and gets great gas mileage. Does not have any problems (that I know about) and Ill happily drive Lucy for the next 10 years.

Great gas mileage car, very reliable. Weak front ends, but other than that great car. Love the gas mileage - 36 mpg.

  • Good overall car - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

This car has been quite reliable, never stranding me anywhere. It is somewhat sedate, but that has kept me from getting any tickets in it. This is a benefit in the cost of ownership, which had been very reasonable. I got 96,000 km out of the original tires, the brakes last forever, and oil changes are cheap (compared to my diesel f250). It has had a few minor issues, but I will cover that in the suggested improvements.

  • 2001 Honda Civic LX Automatic Sedan - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

The Civic is overall a good car, but the 2001-2005 Civic wasnt a really a good Civic. This version was a little too boring and the 4 speed automatic in our car makes it irritatingly slow and the reliability wasnt as good as expected. It hasnt been mechanical problems, but problems with quality. The plastics felt flimsy all along and the seats got worn out and small tears. Another issue is the shocks, which wear out and make the front end bounce under braking and acceleration. The brakes arent good either, they take a long time to stop the car and the LX doesnt have ABS. These Civics are dependable economy cars, but the 2001-2005 versions dont impress in enough other ways.

  • Hondas reputation comes through - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

Good reliable car. With regular maintenance and responsible ownership, Ive never had any major problems. Great gas mileage! Seems to be built well, and is easy to fix and modify if necessary, both internally and externally. I hope to continue driving this car for years to come.

  • Suspension is crap - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought brand new, careful maintenance, still issues. 20,000 miles - both front struts replaced under warranty. 90,000 miles - all 4 struts replaced, $900 cost. 100,000 miles - catalytic converter, 2 oxygen sensors, front control arm bushings replaced - $1500 cost. SRS light went off due to faulty drivers side seat belt buckle, dealer replaced under lifetime warranty of safety equipment. 120,000 miles - rattling started and at 40+ miles/hour sounds like Im flying a plane. Many suggested here that wheel barrings are out. Never left me stranded, but starting to require more than preventative maintenance.
