Overview & Reviews
Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.
- Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
- Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

Civics - 2001 Honda Civic
By allie - June 4 - 6:19 pmI love my car. The only disappointment I have in the car that I have had for the past four years is the fact that it seems to dent very easily. The slightest tap will dent the car. But as far as reliability and performance, I love the car.

My workhorse - 2001 Honda Civic
By habuki - June 1 - 2:00 amIve put 50,000 miles on my civic and other than changing the brakes and air filters, there has not been one mechanical issue. Not much power to show off, but its a nice relatively quiet ride that wont fail you.

Is this car really a Honda? - 2001 Honda Civic
By Jesse - May 20 - 2:57 amNote to all looking for this car... it falls apart at 80k. Period. Ive had to replace the tranny ($2800), another timing belt/water pump/tensioner ($850), shocks ($880), resently. My opinion is that shocks and a tranny should last more than 80k especially on a honda. I almost have more money into this car than I could trade it in for in only the last month. I cant believe Honda would put thier name on this heap...and I maintained mine good too.

Love it - 2001 Honda Civic
By Emmy - May 15 - 11:48 ami cant imagine saying anything bad about this car. i recently purhcased it and i love it! the ride is awesome, it drives as smooth as my fathers bmw. it is comfortable, and the back seats are suprisingly roomy. the gas mileage is great and the styling is too. I was used to driving a 92 volvo station wagon, so the styling couldnt get much better if you ask me. it has been very reliable and seems quick on the road. i love the interior, and while driving, the car is very quiet, there was one rattle, but the dealership took care of it for me. other than that, the car makes barely any noise at all. overall a great car!

Honda EX Coupe - 2001 Honda Civic
By Linda Clay - May 13 - 10:00 amOver the last 13 years, Ive owned four new and three used Civics. Ive had no maintenance problems with my new Civics. Theyre awesome cars and dirt cheap for the excellent quality that you get. They are classy inside and out. I cant find a comparable vehicle. Ive compared the Civic to the Celica and the Eclipse, both of which look great but cost thousands more and dont have the extras that the Civic EX comes equipped with (power everything, sunroof). Thats why I keep buying them!

Decent performer for the money - 2001 Honda Civic
By Jimbo - May 11 - 11:11 pmThis car as a performer really isnt anything to write home about. The handling is ok (lots of body roll is the main problem) but it could be a lot better. The steering, clutch and brake pedal feedback are minimal, and the steering is about the lightest of any car I have driven, which I personally dont like. There is a decent amount of power for a 1.7 liter engine, but its all WAY up in the RPM range. Because of that, the gears are very close (75 mph in 5th= ~3400 RPM). However, as a commuter car, this is a very good car because it is incredibly reliable, and gets impressive gas mileage, despite the high RPM it turns for a given speed.

The BEST OF THE BEST !! - 2001 Honda Civic
By MDBoy - May 7 - 10:00 amExcellent car in its class or perhaps in any other class...for mere $14,000. I bought my Civic brand new in its first production year.(usually first production years are troublesome.) So far the car has given me nothing but pure happiness. I have driven a cross the country 2 times with it. I am falling in love with this car. The handling is great, the design is superb, re-sale value is topnotch, reliability is somthing to brag about..and not to mention, its safty beats Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan (Check out National Highway and Traffic Safty Association website @ www.nhtsa.dot.gov).

01 Civic Coupe - 2001 Honda Civic
By Jesse - April 27 - 3:13 amI drive a lot. This car is great for a person who does so. The few problems I have run into are... seeing the "blind" spot - the pillar is in the way for a head check uphill power with the automatic tranny - have to put it into passing gear space inside - always bumping elbows boring - its a car that is really nothing special not enough places to stash your stuff like sunglasses etc. The upside... its inexpensive to own. 30+ mpg, low cost to buy. It was just as expensive to insure as my 2001 4x4 Tacoma which I thought was odd. Overall, I wish I had bought something with more personality even if it had cost a few bucks more.

Good commuter - 2001 Honda Civic
By HXowner - April 16 - 9:53 pmAlthough I rarely get advertised 39/44 city/h-way mileage, it consistently provides more than 30 mpg without noticible lack of power. Going to the hills is another subject though... Handles nice and very nimble. Havent had any mechanical failures yet, but been having problems with warping rotors. Dealer insists that it is my driving, but when it consistently happens in less than 8,000 mile interval on the same wheel, I suspect the otherwise. But there isnt a sure way to prove it... Overall, a great performer for what its worth. So far it only consumes gas, oil, air and break lining.

Cant go wrong! - 2001 Honda Civic
By Johnny - April 3 - 6:24 pmIve had this car for about 5 months, its been nothing but reliable for me! Oh and it gets 44MPG! Recommended over any hybrid that will cost you thousands more!
