  • incredible highly underrated car - 1994 Geo Metro
    By -

I absolutely love my 94 Geo Metro XFi. My grandparents bought it used around 94 I acquired it in 05. After 18 years of life, it might finally be time for me to say goodbye to this car, due to some substantial subframe damage lately. But even now, the only issue with the car is rust the engine, the transmission, etc. are all perfectly fine. After 18 years, and a low 74,000 miles, the only major repairs were replacing the MAP sensor (around 65-70K), replacing the exhaust and muffler, and replacing front CV joints and control arms (this year and last year). This car is amazingly reliable. Ive driven it in every harsh condition, as well as across the country. surprising cargo capacity too.

  • no good deed goes unpunished - 1994 Geo Metro

94 2-door hatchback, bought new. Used for commuting from 94-96. Excellent commuter car (after stereo upgrade). Averaged 45 mpg. From 0-5 mph, as fast as anything! Then the flywheel momentum was conferred. I actually loved this car, but unfortunately its not for a young single man. People just dont want to understand why someone would drive this. It was a good car, but nearly impossible to sell during the boom years of the mid-90s. Later drove a 96 for another two years - same comments

  • ? - 1996 Geo Metro

I drive to work, all freeway speeds and on the "flat". ONE WAY, BUMPER TO BUMPER. No need to pass. Zero acceleration at this speed, but more than need acceleration in town.Have air conditioning, is adequate with tinted windows to keep comfortable at 100 degrees after 10-15 minutes of cooling. Will not stay cool at idling--needs 1500-200 rpm to cool. Adequately. Added cruise control-- millage increased from 42 mpg to 45.6 mpg at 50-60 mph with this change. Nothing breaks, excellent car but VERY NOISY--have double insulated doors with Dynomat sound insulation, it helped ---now I can tell the noise is coming from the floor-- 95-98 db--OSHA action time for this amount of noise is 15 minutes.

  • Gets the job done cheaply - 1996 Geo Metro
    By -

Bought it in November 08 after going bankrupt, needed a cheap car that got great mileage to drive my 120 mile round trip to work 5-6 days a week. Paid $600 with 110k miles on it, wasnt running at the time. Previous owner was a kid who destroyed a new clutch he put in. I put in a new clutch, starter, left axle, and plugs/wires and drove it to 140k without any problems. Replaced timing belt/water pump and it now has 173k. Cost $19 to fill up for 300 miles. Been in a minor fender bender and keeps running. Cant complain for the price I paid and cost of ownership, Id get another! It wont win any races or win any awards for looks or comfort, but it goes from A to B.

  • "MAX" 60+ MPG No Joke!! - 1994 Geo Metro
    By -

I purchased this Canadian built Geo, in Sept 1994. I has served my family well! in fact, we bought two other cars trying to retire "Max"(as the kids call it) and they are no longer on the road. The reliability of this car has been phenomenal! It has taken its share of lickings and keeps on ticking along. regular oil changes, timing belt replacement every 65,000 miles (just because) alternator replaced at 100k!, Valve job @155k (California mandated) and just discovered I need to replace cv joints at 168k! Can you believe it? Its true!! The best part is yet to come, 65 mpg when the vehicle was new! After moving to California, the mileage dropped to 49-50 mpg!

  • The little Putt - putt - 1997 Geo Metro
    By -

I bought my first Geo from a friend and fell in love, now 7 years and almost 300,000 miles later it has finally started dying on me. But I love my little putt-putt so much I managed to find another one identical to her with only 100,000 miles on it. These are great little cars and I hate that they are no longer made. Geo had a great product, maybe thats why chevy bought them cause they were scared? (97 Geo Metro 4dr Sedan 1.3 L 4 cyl) and yes they made 4 cyl in 97 contrary to some car parts places.

  • Im Crying Over My Geo - 1995 Geo Metro
    By -

My husband bought this car in 97. He was its second owner. I took over driving it four years ago and even when we bought a new car, I wanted to drive the Geo. But this weekend, a guy hit my car and the now its worth less than it would cost to fix it. This car has given us almost 9 years AFTER being paid off. It gets 40 mpg easily and I dont even know how to think about replacing it. In my mind, what replaces a car that was reliable even with 140k on it with NO major repairs? BUY this car, but dont get hit by someone with Safe Auto insurance!

  • GM Goofs again!!!! - 1994 Geo Metro
    By -

Why did Gm stop making this car???? Best Idea of the eighties. Good reliable transportation. I called the hatchback my mini pick-up. I moved alot in that cargo space. Why couldnt they have improved on its design. It could have broken the 70MPG barrier.

  • Better car than any Hybrid ever made - 1994 Geo Metro
    By -

I had this car from 1995.I rebuild wrecked cars for my own use. This is one of those cars with amileage of 20.000 at the time I bougt this car.I repaired the front end wreckage and stored the. Started using the car since the gas price went to $1.80 I think around 1998. I rebuilt the Motor and 5 speed transmission at 120000 Miles. It is 3 years since the motor is rebuilt and right now the Mileage is 176000. Use Mobil one with a K&N reusable air cleaner. I had to get the 3 rd set of tires and I have put 4 14" Mag alloy wheels from a 1990 dodge colt from Canada and 14" tires.Speedometer reads 35 m/hr when it is 37 M/hr. at 60 m/hr it shows 55/hr. One of the bestreliable car I had.Does 53mpg.

  • Favorite Car no matter what Scenario - 1996 Geo Metro
    By -

Ive had my Metro for about 5 years, with 3 years of consecutive driving. I moved from a relatively flat area to the alpine mountains, trumped by Subarus and Heavy Duty Diesels. The Geo is great! The winter conditions forced me to learn how to control my FWD car without 4WD. Fuel economy is outstanding about 35mpg. I can put $20 in my tank and run about 2 weeks, or about 280 miles.
