  • A Life Saved - 1990 GMC Safari
    By -

My fiances family has had this van in the family since new. He got it from his parents. We loved that van. It saved my fiances life 3 weeks efore our wedding. Three days ago though my fiance got into a seriouse car wreck. A cement truck pulled out in front of him across 2 lanes of traffic while he was going 45 (55 speed limit on a rainy day) he couldnt stop in time and the van colided into the truck. He is alive and if you looked at the tractor trailer you woldnt believe it.The police say that if not for that van he would be dead. We loved our van and plan to get another.GMC has my vote for best cars around!

  • Love/ Hate - 1997 GMC Safari
    By -

We have a love /hate relationship with this vehicle. It is great to drive, easy for shopping etc. Comfortable on long trips. We have replaced 3 window motors,1 seat motor,an alternator,a very expensive fuel pump,a wiper circuit board and other various items some under warrenty some not. Before the fuel pump went I complained to GMC and they offered me an 8 hundre $ cert. towards a new GMC product good for 1 yr. The pump went shortley after and the fix wiped out the cert. Yesterday the blower moter switch would only work on high.

Good gas miliage compaired to ford windstar. a lot more room. Can tow a trailer with it even though the ford had the 3.8 liter v6 prior to this we had a Contour that got about fourteen miles to the gallon so twenty seems great.

  • electrical hell - 1997 GMC Safari
    By -

This vehicle has been expensive to operate. It had electrical problems from the start. It continues to eat fuses like candy. The lighter, fuel gauge, and power windows have not worked in 2 years. Its on its 4th battery and 3rd set of front brakes. The front end wears tires quickly, even with it properly aligned. In short buyer beware. There is very little head or leg room in the front seats.

  • 95 Safari Conversion - 1995 GMC Safari

This is my second astro/safari conversion. The only reason they are not being driven is because they were both totalled out in wrecks. Anyways, they were both perfect. TV/VCR for my kids, never had any major problems whatsoever out of these vans. The 4.3 v6 got about 17mpg but NEVER broke down and had plenty of power. I bought the first one with 100k and it had 140k when wrecked, my second one i bought with 70k and wrecked it with 111k. I love these vans!

  • A Do-it-All Vehicle - 2002 GMC Safari

I looked at almost every full-size SUV and they were all to expensive and had limited cargo room. Suddenly, I saw the GMC Safari. The Safari does it all and does it well. It has more cargo room than a Ford Expedition and a Chevy Surburban and it was $12,000+ cheaper than either of the two. The only options I did NOT get were AWD, leather, and the homelink. I use my Safari to transport DJ equipment, tow a 27 foot boat, and take Sunday drives with family & friends. I average 16 MPG city and 21-22 hwy, thanks to a K&N filter and a Dynomax muffler. My only complaint is front legroom. Since I am 57", its not too bad.

  • Great car - 1990 GMC Safari
    By -

My family has owned this vehicle since we bought it new in 1989. I recently took ownership when i got my drivers license and it is a great vehicle. It is powerful and great for passing on the freeway. It is also VERY reliable. With 91,000 miles on it, the only problem weve had is the piece of plastic that holds the dimmer switch in place. It handles great and is easier to park than my moms Pontiac Bonneville. It has plenty of room for all my friends. The seats are comfortable and the air conditioning is ice cold. Great vehicle that gives me NO problems.

  • The Van of Vans - 1997 GMC Safari

I have a trailer and its the only thing that can carry 8 people + a 5,000 pound trailer without a sweat

  • Great Minivan - 1995 GMC Safari
    By -

My wife and I bought a 95 Safari used in May of 97 with 80,000 miles on it. Knowing how much we drive and knowing that we dont hurt our vehicles with highway miles, we decided to buy it. I cant possibly explain here what a wonderful minivan its been. No electrical trouble (like some say), no drivetrain trouble, no engine trouble, solid as a rock. Weve done regular routine maintenance type things but if ever you wanted to read about a satisfied GM product customer, Im him. Gas mileage 20+, set of tires every 65-75K, brakes twice lifetime, oil/air filter every 4K- thats about all you do.
