Overview & Reviews
Building tough trucks for tough work has been the focus of GMC for years, but even GMC couldn't avoid the onslaught of the crossover SUV revolution. That's where the GMC Acadia comes in.
The Acadia is a large crossover SUV. Mechanically, it's very similar to its platform-mates -- the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and now-discontinued Saturn Outlook. Thanks to its spacious interior, strong V6 engine and competitive price, the Acadia is one of the better crossover SUV choices. Although there were styling updates and a few other minor changes made for 2013, shoppers should know that Acadias from any year share most of the same pros and cons.
Current GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a large crossover SUV that's offered in five trims: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2 and Denali. Each comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, but all-wheel drive is an option. Although even the base SLE-1 is fairly well-equipped, moving up through the trims brings luxuries such as Bluetooth phone connectivity, leather upholstery, heated seats, a navigation system, smartphone app integration and a panoramic sunroof.
The GMC Acadia is one of the roomiest crossover utility vehicles in its class, with seating for up to eight passengers. The second-row seats are captain's chairs, but a 60/40-split-folding bench is available as an option. Those second-row seats also slide 4 inches fore and aft and easily flip up and out of the way for access to the third-row seats. There's room for adults in the back two rows, though leg support is a bit lacking. With both the second and third rows folded down, the Acadia's substantial cargo space is topped only by minivans and extra-large SUVs like the Chevy Suburban.
In our road tests we've found the Acadia's handling respectable, especially considering the vehicle's large size, and its buttoned-down and quiet ride is particularly impressive. The V6 won't blow you away with its power, but it moves the Acadia out with decent authority. Overall, our editors feel that the GMC Acadia represents a compelling combination of functionality, luxury and value.
Used GMC Acadia Models
The GMC Acadia debuted for the 2007 model year. Its 3.6-liter V6 lacked direct injection until 2009, and hence was rated at a slightly lower 275 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque for its first two years of production. The transmission was reprogrammed for 2010 to address previous complaints of sluggish downshift response. That year also saw new features like Bluetooth connectivity, real-time traffic updates for the navigation system, and available heated and ventilated seats. The plush Denali trim debuted the following year.
For 2013, GMC heavily updated the Acadia. Changes included refreshed front and rear styling, improved interior materials and a new front-center airbag as well as larger, easier-to-use controls for the audio, climate and navigation systems. This year also brought GM's IntelliLink system, with its smartphone integration capability, as well as a slight shuffling of equipment and trim levels.

Intellink made me hate this car. - 2016 GMC Acadia
By Michele Button - October 12 - 5:59 amSelling this car after only six months. Intellink is slow, gets stuck, lacks information and just plain doesnt work. Forget NAV, itll take you to random places. Pandora and Stitcher are slow to load and drop out of the blue at some point 100% of the time. Second row Captains chairs are comfy but waste a huge amount of space when packing the car.

Our 2007 GMC Acadia - 2007 GMC Acadia
By JJ Alapar - September 3 - 12:13 pmFun to drive vehicle. Convenience of a very large SUV packaged with the drive handling, accesories, amenities & styling of a premium luxury sedan. We were set on buying a competitor (and imported) SUV vehicle, but the Acadia had everything we wanted and more for the price. Safety was a key point. Good gas mileage for an AWD optioned car, too.

Do NOT buy this vehicle - 2013 GMC Acadia

By jenplus3 - July 14 - 8:26 pmThis car is everything I want. I am a mother of three very busy children and this car fits all our needs. I wanted the luxury componets, since I am in it so much , but it has such family friedly features everyone loves it! Drives nice. All the extras in this car make all the difference. I feel safe in it with my kids. The interior styling is great, but I also think it has a stylish exterior too! Better than Lexus or Mazada.

2008 Gold Mist SLT2 - 2008 GMC Acadia
By mike - June 27 - 8:03 amAt 6000 miles I am delighted with this vehicle. Loaded with just about all options. Room for all my wordly possessions! very comfortable to travel in. Mileage is as good as I expected; certainly good for a vehicle of this size and power. As noted by others, trans is sometimes a little "busy" but power is more than adequate.

I Love My Acadia! - 2008 GMC Acadia
By lmstancel - June 23 - 10:10 pmThis is my dream car! I love it! The way it drives, the luxury feel to it, everything. This car has every bell and whistle I could ask for. The back cargo area is roomy and the rear seats fold down and back up easily. The steering collum has touch control for everything. Very deep, roomy consoles. We fit 6 large adults very comfortably with lots of room left. The driver assist backup camera is so helpful. I feel very safe and confident driving this SUV.

MIni-Van Killer - 2008 GMC Acadia
By Clinton - June 14 - 1:20 pmJust bought the vehicle a week ago, and it has been great. We live in the mountains of Salt Lake and it has no problem with power. Love the fit and finish of the vehicle, as well as the car like drive. This really is the perfect vehicle if your wife hates the mini-van, but needs a mini-van. This car has mini-van advantages without the image abusing looks of a van.

Just a great looking SUV - 2008 GMC Acadia
By NY Traveler - June 13 - 10:53 amThis is just the finest looking SUV on the road today. Very comfortable and it delivers in excess of the 22mpg highway. Mine is fully loaded with everything imaginable. Instrumentation is excellent including the heads up display on the windshield. Bose is great as is the 36 "favorites" you can set up on the audio. Its nice that you can move from AM to FM to XM without changing the mode. This is my first SUV so Im just getting used to the size. My last car was a BMW 330 so the change is quite dramatic for me. Backup camera helps tremendously in reverse.

Better ride and features than imports! - 2008 GMC Acadia
By Pete OB - June 11 - 4:50 pmI have driven many different vehicles, having worked in the automotive field, but Im very impressed with the GMC Acadia. It has the space of a mini-van but definitly not the look of one and it rides as smooth as a sedan with the ability of an SUV. GM hit it on the head this time. Its truly a vehicle that covers all the bases. Plus a 5yr- 100K warranty and roadside assistance, (some of imports dont even offer roadside unless you purchase it), how could you lose. I give it a big thumbs up.

Product Choices - 2017 GMC Acadia
By Marshall - June 9 - 1:21 pm2017 Acadia (including Denali trim) is not available with directional signal lights in the exterior mirrors--nearly all other vehicles offer that. Limited color choice in Denali trim, most are extra cost. Six-speed automatic when industry trend is to eight and nine speeds. Front seats could use a thigh extender, a feature found on the Toyota Highlander. Premium radio only comes with eight speakers--competition offers more. Many folks still have their CDs; why not offer an optional CD player, as some competitors do?
