Overview & Reviews
Building tough trucks for tough work has been the focus of GMC for years, but even GMC couldn't avoid the onslaught of the crossover SUV revolution. That's where the GMC Acadia comes in.
The Acadia is a large crossover SUV. Mechanically, it's very similar to its platform-mates -- the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and now-discontinued Saturn Outlook. Thanks to its spacious interior, strong V6 engine and competitive price, the Acadia is one of the better crossover SUV choices. Although there were styling updates and a few other minor changes made for 2013, shoppers should know that Acadias from any year share most of the same pros and cons.
Current GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a large crossover SUV that's offered in five trims: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2 and Denali. Each comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, but all-wheel drive is an option. Although even the base SLE-1 is fairly well-equipped, moving up through the trims brings luxuries such as Bluetooth phone connectivity, leather upholstery, heated seats, a navigation system, smartphone app integration and a panoramic sunroof.
The GMC Acadia is one of the roomiest crossover utility vehicles in its class, with seating for up to eight passengers. The second-row seats are captain's chairs, but a 60/40-split-folding bench is available as an option. Those second-row seats also slide 4 inches fore and aft and easily flip up and out of the way for access to the third-row seats. There's room for adults in the back two rows, though leg support is a bit lacking. With both the second and third rows folded down, the Acadia's substantial cargo space is topped only by minivans and extra-large SUVs like the Chevy Suburban.
In our road tests we've found the Acadia's handling respectable, especially considering the vehicle's large size, and its buttoned-down and quiet ride is particularly impressive. The V6 won't blow you away with its power, but it moves the Acadia out with decent authority. Overall, our editors feel that the GMC Acadia represents a compelling combination of functionality, luxury and value.
Used GMC Acadia Models
The GMC Acadia debuted for the 2007 model year. Its 3.6-liter V6 lacked direct injection until 2009, and hence was rated at a slightly lower 275 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque for its first two years of production. The transmission was reprogrammed for 2010 to address previous complaints of sluggish downshift response. That year also saw new features like Bluetooth connectivity, real-time traffic updates for the navigation system, and available heated and ventilated seats. The plush Denali trim debuted the following year.
For 2013, GMC heavily updated the Acadia. Changes included refreshed front and rear styling, improved interior materials and a new front-center airbag as well as larger, easier-to-use controls for the audio, climate and navigation systems. This year also brought GM's IntelliLink system, with its smartphone integration capability, as well as a slight shuffling of equipment and trim levels.

The 2016 GMC Acadia Denali is my favorite vehicle - 2016 GMC Acadia
By SUVoowwnner - August 12 - 6:50 amIve read the other reviews and dont share their opinions, so I wanted to add mine. The 2016 GMC Acadia Denali is my favorite vehicle Ive ever owned. Ive had infiniti, honda, acura, pontiac, jeep, toyota, and now the GMC. Its the most solid, luxurious vehicle Ive owned. It isnt perfect and may not be what you are looking for, but for me, I traded my Toyota Sienna XLE minivan to go to this and got a luxury SUV while only losing a small amount of cargo space. My family and I love it. The heads up display is fantastic. I can remote start my car from my android app from anywhere on the planet and the car, based on outside temperatures, automatically turns on seat heaters and defrosters in the cold to warm it up. The towing rating is solid and the tow button works very well to control a heavy load. The seats are comfortable and I dont have back fat. Im 6, 168 pounds and wear a size 38 sport coat. I have no idea why someone would think you need to be fat to be comfortable in these seats. It escapes me. Also, the headrests do stick forward slightly for safety, but they are adjustable front to back in addition to up and down. Perhaps the other reviewer may be more comfortable by adjusting the headrests backward. The engine is also more than adequate to get 6 people around town and up a WV mountain with no issues at all. Now, my 0-60 time is not competitive with my 370z, but thats why I bought the 370z - not the Acadia. In my opinion, the generous cargo space, high towing capacity, plenty of seating and the level of luxury makes this my favorite SUV at the moment and my favorite car of all time. Hope you try it out and determine whether it works for you.

I cant believe no one said! - 2008 GMC Acadia
By Packer Tahoe - July 26 - 5:20 pmJust over 1200 miles so far. We like it, but my wife misses her Tahoe. No major complants so far except has no one else opened their second row windows yet? Oh my god the air pressure variations will blow your ear drums right out! Major problem.

Love It! - 2008 GMC Acadia
By mswoods - July 1 - 1:13 pmI love the Acadia. I enjoy the drive. The body is bold and stands out. Love all the little extras. DVD, leather seats, and of course the sunroof. The car is an attention getter. It is easy to drive and easy to turn. The rear camera is wonderful when parking. It has enough room on the inside for everyone and you do not feel cramped up. You still feel like you are in a car but you are high like a truck with the room of a SUV! I love it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun-loving family friendly car that still turns heads! Thumbs up to GMC. Just work on the transmission and auto start!

Solid and Reliable - 2008 GMC Acadia
By HRC - June 24 - 8:53 amWe have owned our Acadia for about 13k miles. We selected it over the Acura MDX primarily due to its 3rd row space. Though we had some trepidation about the alleged poor reliability of American cars, I can say that for equivalent miles, the Acadia has been far more reliable than my 2005 Infiniti G35 or my VW Passat. I have had absolutely no reliability issues with the Acadia, while I cant say the same about the others. I was initially concerned about the fuel economy, and I have found the economy to be a mixed bag: city mileage is poor at about 11-14 mpg, but on the highway it is easy to achieve 24mpg by staying <70mph and using the cruise control. This is surprising for a big vehicle.

No More Minivan - 2008 GMC Acadia
By A convert - June 23 - 6:00 amWe just turned in our Toyota Siena and bought our first American-made car. I think GM cracked the code on this vehicle. We have 3 kids and my wife wanted the convenience and functionality of a minivan and I wanted the look and feel of a sporty SUV. The Acadia has it all. It is very roomy inside and 3 adults can easily access and sit in the 3rd row. Plus there is ample storage behind the 3rd row which many cross-overs dont have.

Great vehicle! - 2007 GMC Acadia
By Mike Freeman - June 21 - 11:50 amI love this car. I truly enjoy the feel of a crossover vehicle. I have gotten great mileage and no so great, but overall, I do just about as good as I did with the Pontiac a G6 that I had previously.

Pig on Gas - 2007 GMC Acadia
By Mike - June 19 - 3:50 pmExpecting equal or better fuel economy to my last vehicle which was a Jeep, I was disappointed to only get about 14mpg average 30% lower than expected. The ride is smooth, although after 3 months rattles with the doors and undercarrage have started to appear, a few features like the rear wiper switch being on the highbeam switch which easily gets turned on by mistake when switching the highbeams. and chrome accents that reflect the sun in your eyes. But for the little amount of snow I drove it in the handling and traction was great, Dont let anyone lean on your Acadia as the panels dent easy. For a GM vehicle it was better than expected, but still not great.

Acadia Family - 2007 GMC Acadia
By Terrence - June 5 - 12:56 amMy driving experience has been excellent. Very hard car to find on dearlership lots. My previous vehicle was a 2002 Envoy XL. I was disappointed with GMs decision not continue Envoy XL (3rd row) for 2007. However, this vehicle makes up the difference in a big way. I am very pleased with the design and technology for the vehicle. It really should priced higher than listed on the window. I purchased a fully loaded Acadia and it will take me sometime to figure out all the capabilities included on this vehicle. Way to go GM, finally it feels good again that an American manufacturer has step up to the plate with a very good design. Excellent family vehicle.

Buyer Beware! - 2008 GMC Acadia
By TINA - May 25 - 12:20 amWe recently bought the Acadia because we wanted a car with better gas mileage than our Expedition. Big disappointment. We are only getting about 12 mpg. Since the sticker advertised 16 city/24 highway, you can imagine my surprise when I only got 12. The car is beautiful in design and interior layout is excellent. But if youre looking for a wonderful car with great gas mileage, buy something else. I will be getting rid of this car as soon as possible. Looks arent everything and if GMC cant do better than to make a vehicle with such poor gas mileage, they should stop making them. Ill take my Expedition back anyday.
