Model Overview:

Building tough trucks for tough work has been the focus of GMC for years, but even GMC couldn't avoid the onslaught of the crossover SUV revolution. That's where the GMC Acadia comes in.

The Acadia is a large crossover SUV. Mechanically, it's very similar to its platform-mates -- the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and now-discontinued Saturn Outlook. Thanks to its spacious interior, strong V6 engine and competitive price, the Acadia is one of the better crossover SUV choices. Although there were styling updates and a few other minor changes made for 2013, shoppers should know that Acadias from any year share most of the same pros and cons.

Current GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a large crossover SUV that's offered in five trims: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2 and Denali. Each comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, but all-wheel drive is an option. Although even the base SLE-1 is fairly well-equipped, moving up through the trims brings luxuries such as Bluetooth phone connectivity, leather upholstery, heated seats, a navigation system, smartphone app integration and a panoramic sunroof.

The GMC Acadia is one of the roomiest crossover utility vehicles in its class, with seating for up to eight passengers. The second-row seats are captain's chairs, but a 60/40-split-folding bench is available as an option. Those second-row seats also slide 4 inches fore and aft and easily flip up and out of the way for access to the third-row seats. There's room for adults in the back two rows, though leg support is a bit lacking. With both the second and third rows folded down, the Acadia's substantial cargo space is topped only by minivans and extra-large SUVs like the Chevy Suburban.

In our road tests we've found the Acadia's handling respectable, especially considering the vehicle's large size, and its buttoned-down and quiet ride is particularly impressive. The V6 won't blow you away with its power, but it moves the Acadia out with decent authority. Overall, our editors feel that the GMC Acadia represents a compelling combination of functionality, luxury and value.

Used GMC Acadia Models
The GMC Acadia debuted for the 2007 model year. Its 3.6-liter V6 lacked direct injection until 2009, and hence was rated at a slightly lower 275 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque for its first two years of production. The transmission was reprogrammed for 2010 to address previous complaints of sluggish downshift response. That year also saw new features like Bluetooth connectivity, real-time traffic updates for the navigation system, and available heated and ventilated seats. The plush Denali trim debuted the following year.

For 2013, GMC heavily updated the Acadia. Changes included refreshed front and rear styling, improved interior materials and a new front-center airbag as well as larger, easier-to-use controls for the audio, climate and navigation systems. This year also brought GM's IntelliLink system, with its smartphone integration capability, as well as a slight shuffling of equipment and trim levels.

  • Hope I did the right thing - 2009 GMC Acadia

I have been a Honda kinda guy. Taking a chance with GMC, love the vehicle at this point, with the exception of the MPG (overstated). As long as the reli bility is there down the road I will be fine, Anyone out there that can speak of the relibility on owning a 2007?

  • LOVE My ACADIA - 2008 GMC Acadia

I am a Mom with two young children. We love our new car. GMC did a great job with this vehicle. I love to just get out and drive. We have 3 other vehicles but I find myself wanting to drive my "Black Beauty" all of the time.

  • Check Engine light - 2009 GMC Acadia
    By -

We love our Acadia, beautiful design but unhappy with the Check Engine Light being on about 80% of the time since we have owned it: 5 months. Each time its on I take it in, and all 3 times they say its the emissions and each time I get one new part: canister with hoses, next time it was the purge valve, last time was the fuel tank sensor --and after the car was on the lift and the tank off -oops, wrong part, so I got a rental car at their expense. 2 days later, check engine light on again. I have asked for a new gas cap -as it also says tighten gas cap" (we do) and I guess it all depends on GM and what they say. If it comes on again after whatever they do this time, I want another car!!

  • Love the Acadia - 2007 GMC Acadia

We absolutely love our 2 year Acadia. It is fun to drive and drives like a car-very smooth! The only complaint we have is the interior light of the digital clock/radio and odometer/exterior temp read-outs. (Hope fully, this has been changed with the future models) but, the lighting on these read-outs is so dim, that during the daytime hours it is very difficult, if not impossible, to see the readouts! Quite an oversight on GMC. The Enclave utilizes a green back light for these read outs, which is much easier to read/effective!

The Acadia handles well and is doesnt handle or float around like a large SUV. It has received multiple unsollicited compliments in parking lots and several impromptu tours.

  • Disgusted Acadia Owner - 2008 GMC Acadia

We purchased our Acadia in 9/07 because of its safety ratings, size, comfort and price. Initially we had no problem and loved the car until a year after we owned it. Then the leaks started (9/08) and were still having problems. First they installed the drain extension tubes for the sunroof but that didnt work. Ive had water leaks from my dome lights, grab handle, sun visor and on the floor of the passenger side. I also had the ignition switch replaced last month because the engine kept running with the key out of the ignition!! I am currently beginning the arbitration process!

  • Great Vehicle - 2009 GMC Acadia
    By -

A couple of years ago I bought an Infiniti FX 35, it was very sporty and reliable, but it was too small and it bounced all over rougher payment. The Acadia (Outlook, Traverse etc.) has much more, is much more comfortable and has an incredibly smooth ride. GMC has a winner with this. I bought my Acadia about 6 weeks ago, I love it and so does my wife.

  • Central lock defect - 2009 GMC Acadia
    By -

My new Acadia just became faulty. A month after I purchased it, the central lock broke down. After being sent to repair 3 times, the dealer still couldnt manage to figure out what was wrong. It would be great to open my acadia without using the key, driver door. It will also be great to get my kids in without having them wait outside in order for me to get in and open the windows to be able to unlock the doors manually.

  • A great vehicle! - 2009 GMC Acadia
    By -

We have had our new Acadia for about a month and although that is not a very long time we are really, really pleased with our purchase! It is fun to drive, has good pick-up, sits solidly on the road, very comfortable inside, has a great sound system, and the robust features of the navigation system are all we could want. Add in the Onstar capability and we feel covered in all respects. We bought the heavy black floor mats for rainy weather and find that very useful in the rear when we need to transport "messy" things. We feel good driving it -- it has a classy appearance, too. Couldnt be happier!

  • Buyer beware - 2007 GMC Acadia
    By -

Should have known better than to buy a new American vehicle in its 1st year of production, but I was absolutely smitten by the design. Had issues with excessive road noise on the highway, but that was finally resolved after almost a year with new tires (the original Fortera tires were defective). Car handles nice and tight on the hwy with decent acceleration and comfort. However, mileage has never been as good as advertised. Worse thing is intermittent roof leaks that have required 4 or 5 trips to the dealership! Thank goodness I bought the GM Protection Plan extended warranty. Wonder if it will do me any good once GM goes bankrupt? I will think three times before buying a GM product again.
