Model Overview:

Building tough trucks for tough work has been the focus of GMC for years, but even GMC couldn't avoid the onslaught of the crossover SUV revolution. That's where the GMC Acadia comes in.

The Acadia is a large crossover SUV. Mechanically, it's very similar to its platform-mates -- the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and now-discontinued Saturn Outlook. Thanks to its spacious interior, strong V6 engine and competitive price, the Acadia is one of the better crossover SUV choices. Although there were styling updates and a few other minor changes made for 2013, shoppers should know that Acadias from any year share most of the same pros and cons.

Current GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a large crossover SUV that's offered in five trims: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2 and Denali. Each comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, but all-wheel drive is an option. Although even the base SLE-1 is fairly well-equipped, moving up through the trims brings luxuries such as Bluetooth phone connectivity, leather upholstery, heated seats, a navigation system, smartphone app integration and a panoramic sunroof.

The GMC Acadia is one of the roomiest crossover utility vehicles in its class, with seating for up to eight passengers. The second-row seats are captain's chairs, but a 60/40-split-folding bench is available as an option. Those second-row seats also slide 4 inches fore and aft and easily flip up and out of the way for access to the third-row seats. There's room for adults in the back two rows, though leg support is a bit lacking. With both the second and third rows folded down, the Acadia's substantial cargo space is topped only by minivans and extra-large SUVs like the Chevy Suburban.

In our road tests we've found the Acadia's handling respectable, especially considering the vehicle's large size, and its buttoned-down and quiet ride is particularly impressive. The V6 won't blow you away with its power, but it moves the Acadia out with decent authority. Overall, our editors feel that the GMC Acadia represents a compelling combination of functionality, luxury and value.

Used GMC Acadia Models
The GMC Acadia debuted for the 2007 model year. Its 3.6-liter V6 lacked direct injection until 2009, and hence was rated at a slightly lower 275 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque for its first two years of production. The transmission was reprogrammed for 2010 to address previous complaints of sluggish downshift response. That year also saw new features like Bluetooth connectivity, real-time traffic updates for the navigation system, and available heated and ventilated seats. The plush Denali trim debuted the following year.

For 2013, GMC heavily updated the Acadia. Changes included refreshed front and rear styling, improved interior materials and a new front-center airbag as well as larger, easier-to-use controls for the audio, climate and navigation systems. This year also brought GM's IntelliLink system, with its smartphone integration capability, as well as a slight shuffling of equipment and trim levels.

  • Defective Acadia - 2010 GMC Acadia

Ok, this is my second Post. When we first got the Acadia it was great. But 3 weeks after we bought it. The Stability Control System and the Antilocking Braking System went out on us. Thats when things got ugly. We took it back to the dealer and thats where its been for the last 2 weeks working on the 3rd week. They cant tell us whats wrong with our vehicle. We have a brand new Acadia and cant drive it. All the dealer can say is that they are working with GMC and doing all they can to fix the issues. Not feeling too good about the GMC product right now.

  • GM Belt tightening at customers expense - 2010 GMC Acadia

I recently took delivery of my Beautiful 2010 GMC Acadia and was a little disappointed to see the little things that GM decided to eliminate or add to the parts dept. inventory for sale. The 2010 model when ordered with the sun roof, has a manual pull rear shade, compared to the power one on past model years. The hitch cover is now an option that you can purchase from the parts dept. in excess of $50.00, and the compass that is listed in their literature is not available if the navigation option is ordered. Too bad they dont add that tidbit in their selling info!! When i questioned the salesman, he replied that GM had to cut back to keep the price down?!! At $50K up from $48K last year?!!!

  • Best SUV Ever? - 2009 GMC Acadia
    By -

This may be the best SUV ever. It is a large vehicle so it feels safe. Gets good gas mileage yet has loads of power. The inside feels like a honda odessey except it has more style and loads much more upscale. This vehicle is great for a man or woman and really is a step up from a car or mini van. This is the best SUV yet!

  • Beware of Estimated MPGs - 2009 GMC Acadia
    By -

All around I love my new Acadia. But beware of the sticker estimated MPGs. The sticker says 17cty/24hwy, my actual so far has been 13cty/17hwy. If I had known this before my decision may have changed on buying an Acadia. All but the poor MPGs I love my new Acadia.

  • Works Great for Us. - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

We have now driven our 2008 Acadia more than 30,000 miles. This is by far the best road-trip vehicle weve ever owned, and we have been delighted with its performance and comfort under a wide variety of conditions. Labors a bit with heavy trailers, but handles very well when towing. No repair issues aside from transmission reprogramming to improve shifting responsiveness, which resolved issue. Gas mileage had been pretty good for vehicle of this size, but is VERY sensitive to driving style (highway range from 11mpg towing heavy trailer to 23mpg with moderate load/high speed). Find controls and switches to be laid out very intuitively, seats flip/fold very easily. Would buy again.

  • Best Cross-Over Out - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

The new GMC Acadia is absolutely the best new crossover out there right now. Whichever trim level you decide you will not be disappointed. I have been looking to by a new vehicle for 6 months and at first i thought the price range was just too much. But after comparing the features and standards to other similar vehicles i kept coming back to the acadia. I thought about buying the honda pilot, but after test driving them both i purchased the Acadia. No regrets here.

  • Buyer Beware - 2007 GMC Acadia
    By -

We purchased the car in 2007 and noticed the acceleration was poor especially when A/C is on. Hit 36,000 miles memorial day weekend and since then the waterpump, and transmission sensor have been replace. Now car is whining and was told in normal cars they have power steering but this car doesnt and it is electrical and you not what that means more money. Overall this is not a reliable vehicle. Service department now knows my name but they are good at making the repairs.

  • great crossover - 2009 GMC Acadia

I believe this GMC is probably the best, quietest, smooth riding vehicle I have ever owned. Great looks, good performance, great quality built, all round great car.

  • Great vehicle - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

Have owned 3 Yukon XLs, Yukon Denali. Envoy--love this vehicle! More leg room than Envoy, but hate the transmission. Too much surging, lagging, no pick-up, changes gears too often & at wrong time. Im a GM person, but the transmission needs serious improvement--its my only complaint about the car, but I dont know if I can stand this for 2-3 yrs.
