This Year's Model Updates:

After the 2000 redesign, updates are minor. A Lower Anchor and Tether for Children (LATCH) is now standard on all models. LATCH is an anchoring system for child safety seats. Also new is Spruce Green Clearcoat Metallic, an increase in fuel tank capacity to 18 gallons, a six-disc CD changer standard on SES models, power locks standard on LX and an optional rear spoiler.

Pros:
  • Excellent value for the money, high level of safety, available as a sedan or a wagon.
Cons:
  • Rental car stigma, front seats lack comfort, no rear disc brakes on the sedan.

This is the second car that I can say I have been extremely pleased with. I was in an accident where another car hit me in the left front at 55 mph and I was not injured.

While the features have greatly improved over the 2000 lack luster interior design. The Taurus has great dependibility. The quality of interior materials used are sub-par I believe a little more effort and this could be better fixed. The clothe seats shed, and the automatic gear selector console is made of cheap plastic the seperates from its molding under heat. Ive noticed a irritating buzzing at highway speeds, it sound like a bee buzzing against the glass. I think something has come loose outside.

  • Second Taurus, dunno why. - 2001 Ford Taurus

Well what can I say? Its a Taurus. Mine does not have the 24valve dual overhead-cam engine w/200hp, I have the 3.0L vulcan w/155hp. Performance and fun to drive arent the questions you should ask when purchasing a Taurus. I all too often get the feeling that I have rented this car rather than purchased it it blends really well with traffic and you WILL lose it in a parking lot. It is, however, high quality, extremely reliable and practical although it consumes gas as if it had a larger engine I am averaging 18miles/gallon. Its a good car for the money but loses value really quickly. Its not the best its class or price range.

With the 24 valve performance is still not a word used but the 200 hp will push you up to 60 in about 8 seconds. Not bad but not good. Cornering is ok in this car but does have a problem with body roll. Again this car was designed for the less wealthy older folks.

  • alot more noise - 2001 Ford Taurus

This is our 2nd taurus. We had a 1995 that we loved. we only had to repair the hood latch in 6yrs of ownership. the 2001 has been in the shop for more recalls than I would like. it is very noisy when traveling. we had to put new brakes and rotors at 24000 miles. the car is now making alot of front end noise. I dont like the wider tires either.I have talked to several people who said the car has a light rearend and have lost control in rain and snow because it comes around on you. dont like that either.Probably my last taurus

  • Decent Car - 2001 Ford Taurus

My 2001 Taurus is a good family car. It looks nice and is roomy inside with a large trunk. On the other hand it is boring to drive. I am also disappointed that it has drepreciated over 65% since I bought it new. In retrospect I wish I bought a two year old Tarus instead of a new one.

  • NEVER AGAIN - 2001 Ford Taurus

This is my 5th Ford and I say never again. this car has been in the repair shop so many times I have lost count ford has always fix it under warienty.Recently it has stalled on then freeway in heavy traffic and been in the shop 2 times for the transmision. The best part is that Ford says thier computer can not find a problem for either and they can not duplicate the problem. Anyway I say never again. This car is not dependable.

  • Solid Car - 2001 Ford Taurus

It is an all around good car...especially for what you can buy one for used. I have had mine for over two years and have had nothing but routine maintenance and have averaged about 22-23 mpg.

  • Very Pleased - 2001 Ford Taurus

We bought our SES used with 19,000 miles on it for $10,800 (good price). It has a power moonroof, rear spoiler, nice wheels, front bucket seats. We really like the firm seats, leg room, roomy trunk and sporty look. The car drives great and handles well. The V-6 is not as peppy as my Olds, but it does just fine. We are very happy with it so far.

  • good car/bad gas mileage - 2001 Ford Taurus
    By -

This is basically a great car, very comfortable for our family of four. However, Ford must have miscalculated the city mileage. The sticker claimed 20mpg city and 27mpg highway. The best that I have gotten is 15mpg in the city. The highway gas mileage is a lot closer to being accurate, but unfortunately, my commute is all in town. Great on long road trips.
