Overview & Reviews
After the 2000 redesign, updates are minor. A Lower Anchor and Tether for Children (LATCH) is now standard on all models. LATCH is an anchoring system for child safety seats. Also new is Spruce Green Clearcoat Metallic, an increase in fuel tank capacity to 18 gallons, a six-disc CD changer standard on SES models, power locks standard on LX and an optional rear spoiler.
- Excellent value for the money, high level of safety, available as a sedan or a wagon.
- Rental car stigma, front seats lack comfort, no rear disc brakes on the sedan.

Shocked by a Ford - 2001 Ford Taurus
By Val - August 11 - 1:43 amI always swore I would never own a Ford. But, after driving a Blazer gas hog decided to try. Interiors roomy, especially if you have members of your family at least 6ft. tall. Rides smooth, quiet, and full of power.

Perfect Vehicle! - 2001 Ford Taurus
By Ford King - April 24 - 7:43 pmThis is my second Taurus SES. I tried to go to a sports car again and I decided I wanted the Taurus instead. I really enjoy the drive and the way it rides. The side airbags and ABS are very good options to have. My favorite option is the traction control. This option has helped me in some tricky situations especially in the snow. I have never gotten stuck in the snow even when ten inches deep. I will probably always want to have a Taurus until I am ready to purchase a Five Hundred or until I get tired of my Explorer. This is a lot of car for not much money and will last forever!

My Ford Taurus - 2001 Ford Taurus
By murray - March 24 - 1:46 amGas mileage is not good. Car behaves well, has really not been a problem except that "Service Engine" light comes on because gas gauge goes wacky. This is probably due to having used poor gas sometimes. Seems to be sensitive to this. No noticeable knocks or pings, however.

Surprised - 2001 Ford Taurus
By SMM - March 8 - 11:29 amI have had two Hondas. I was/am very surprised by the ride of this vehicle. It is smooth and very roomy with a decent punch from 40-70 mph. I have had it for only 15,000 miles bought it used. I feel like I am waiting for the other shoe to drop re reliability but it has not yet. Had a minor A/C problem and Ford stepped up the plate when I bought it without a warranty. Very pleased thus far. People act surprised when I tell them they should just drive it to see for themselves what Ford has done.

Nice car so far - 2001 Ford Taurus
By janet - January 30 - 1:30 amBought with 17,000 miles. Already had brake work done and new tires. I had to put a EGR sensor on it, but other than that, havent had to repair anything else, yet. Car is very pretty, but not much room inside, plus seats are not comfy. Lots of road noise to get used to. Has 45,000 miles on it now, after 1 1/2 years. Hoping it wont start falling apart. Miss the large trunk I used to have on my Grand Marquis. No comparison to the comfort that car had. All in all, so far this has been a nice car.

Good Value - 2001 Ford Taurus
By Alan Estergomy - June 14 - 2:00 amBought with 18,000 miles and it has been a very good purchase. Very good highway car. Been to Florida 3 times and it proved to be a comfortable cruiser. Better value than friends Camry. Taurus has cost me .15 cents per mile so far and Camry cost .37 cents for my friend. Looking forward to a new Ford Five Hundred next year.

OK Ride - Dependable and Easy to Drive - 2001 Ford Taurus
By Robert in Texas - May 11 - 2:00 amMy 2001 SES DOHC was a rental bought at a dealer in 2002 with 23K. Had initial problems with brakes. Had rotors turned, then had them turned again about 20K later. Had fuel sensor replaced under warranty, idler pulley failed around 40K. Has been trouble free otherwise. Not exciting to drive, but is easy. Good smooth power from the 200hp DOHC engine. Transmission is a little clunky going from 3-4. Have 62K now and all is well. Will be a good car for my teenage daughter.

A surprisingly good car - 2001 Ford Taurus
By rohada - April 17 - 2:00 amIt was a company car. Only repair in 85,000 miles was a replaced oxygen sensor. This car would be a great value for someone looking to buy it new and keep it somewhere shy of 100,000 miles. Never stranded me, always started. Though I dont need one for personal use, I have recommended it to those who ask if I would buy one. Performance/fun to drive not in keeping with an Accord, but is is well above average in all other categories.

Got what I paid for - 2001 Ford Taurus
By Eric9dodge - March 30 - 2:00 amThis is my 4th Ford. Prior to this, I owned a Bronco, 1997 Thunderbird and a 97 Lincon Mark VIII. The Taurus SEL was a step down from the Lincoln, so I must admit that I thought the interior was rather nice for an entry level car. I was disappointed with the comfort of the front seats(used for long trips). I was also disappointed with the fuel economy. Overall, the car drives very well and has a good deal of power at high rpms, but could use a little more effeciency. I have 30,000 miles now, and I have a strut that went bad, other than that, trouble free.
