This Year's Model Updates:

Floor mats become standard on all Taurus models, and the base V6 benefits from improved fuel economy. All but the base LX get security approach lamps, while LX and SE come standard with six-passenger seating. A slew of no-charge options are available on various Taurus models for 2002: SE gets a free power driver seat and CD player; SES comes with free leather or a moonroof (regionally available); SEL adds leather or moonroof, or both (regionally available). SEL also has standard adjustable pedals for 2002. A new SEL Wagon debuts. A new SEL premium package includes a Mach audio system, side airbags and traction control. Optional on SES and SEL is a new Luxury and Convenience group, which provides an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and heated side mirrors. Four new colors round out the list of changes.

Pros:
  • Excellent value for the money, high level of safety equipment and crash protection, available as a sedan or a wagon, usually discounted with rebates and incentives.
Cons:
  • Rental car stigma, poor expected resale value, no rear disc brakes on the sedan.

  • Overall Great Car - 2002 Ford Taurus

This car replaced a 2000 SE with 3.04V. I opted for the same engine but also wanted options. Got everything but engine block heater and wood trim (South Louisiana, who needs it). Tighter and seemingly more solid than my old Taurus, however, performance is down. I could smoke a Crown Vic in my old car, but this one is not as quick off the line or accelerating to pass. This is due to CAFE standards, so I guess Im out of luck. Otherwise, a great car. Also, rear discs standard on Wagon, not available on sedan.

  • Darn Good Value! - 2002 Ford Taurus

This is probably one of the best deals out there right now. We took advantage of the $2500 rebate rather than the 0% offer. Clean styling, comfortable seating for 5 (could squeeze 6 in a pinch). Got it for 16,700 - after rebates & before taxes/doc. The LX is the base model, but it comes with power windows/locks & even a passive security system. All this plus a 5 star crash rating. Great car for the money!

  • Great Deal - Poor driver comfort - 2002 Ford Taurus
    By -

I got the SE model without the adjustable petals. I find that the seat, pedal distance, and pedal location all add up to make my ride uncomfortable even for short distances. There is just something about it that isnt right. Maybe it is my height (I am 58) but still, it doesnt seem that it was designed to completely put the driver at ease. I have to prop my thigh up with a small towel to give me the distance and height that I need. Besides this, I do feel that the car is a great deal. You get a whole lot of car for not much money. You may not get the performance and build quality of others cars, but it is worth the price.

many maintenance and repair items take twice as long as say GM cars. if well maintained can be reliable.

Ive only had this car a few days, but what a ride. Still breaking it in, so no racing yet. Expect that Ill have to buy a radar detector soon, the car is only getting started when you hit 70MPH. The 3.0 DOHC motor is the way to go, just remember that its not a muscle car, so dont expect to kill cars from stoplight to stoplight. What this car is great for is passing those hotrods when they hit 55MPH and have to slow down because they attract so much attention. My silver with black leather sleeper doesnt raise any eyebrows, but thats fine with me. Very quiet, nice ride, lots of room, and massive trunk.

  • Recommend Ford Taurus with Exceptions - 2002 Ford Taurus

My vehicle is a company vehicle. The only complaints I have with this car is the amount of room provided with the standard drivers seat and not having the duratec engine (3.0L 4V the 3.0L 2V is standard). I had a 2001 with no power seat or power pedals and it was unbearable to drive do to the seat not going back far enough(I am 63"). I was able to pass that car off and get the 2002 model with a power seat and power petals and now enjoy a comfortable drive.

  • Edmunds Got It Right - 2002 Ford Taurus

I had no intention of getting a Taurus when looking for a lease, but Ford has a program offer to good to refuse. Edmunds review, it is right on. A perfect blend of price and good attributes. A whole lot of goodies for the money (spoke wheels, leather seats, etc.). Leather seats are not as comfortable as the fuzzy ones, and the base six could be a little more peppy. Sometimes, not often the transmission gets fooled.

  • 205,000 miles still ticking - 2002 Ford Taurus
    By -

IV owed this car for 15 years now with 205,000 miles its still going. Had to put a junkyard transmission in it not too long ago, and a $17 oil preasure switch and a new tensioner but its to be expected at that age and miliage. Idles a bit rough when first started but like I said shes old been from Maine to Florida, Alabama now Tennesee. With age and wear and tear you can expect to have repairs. Its been a great car.
