This Year's Model Updates:

New for 2003, the SEL trim level offers a unique instrument cluster with a satin-finish background, as well as Imola leather trimmed seats and dark wood trim. You can now get a real wood- and leather-trimmed steering wheel, and you'll want to note that power windows and locks, as well as tilt steering and floor mats, are standard on all models.

Pros:
  • Excellent value for the money, high level of safety equipment and crash protection, available as a sedan or a wagon.
Cons:
  • Rental car stigma, poor expected resale value, not as refined as most other midsize sedans.

  • Quality Car and Excellent Value! - 2003 Ford Taurus

This is an easy car to drive. It has a good, solid feel on the road. I find the drivers seat very comfortable and the interior is extemely quiet. Since Ive only driven this car 2200 miles, its too early to rate in terms of reliability but Im impressed with its initial quality. The car was put together flawlessly in Atlanta. In my opinion, the Taurus is the most handsome- looking family vehicle on the market today.

This is my 2nd Taurus. This time I went for some luxury.Leather seating, floor shift, spoiler and sunroof.I purchased the spruce green color. All in all I am thrilled with my car.My husband is an auto mechanic, the only imput he had was with the engine. He did not want me to get the Duratec engine. The 3.0 has plenty of get up and go.So if you want a good dependable and pretty car, this is the car for you.

This is the second Taurus Ive owned and have been impressed how much better this car is compared to the 1999. I have had the car for 16 months and not one mechanical problem. I love the ride of this car and the reliability of it. My brothers 2002 Altima is always in the shop, not my Taurus! What luxury at a great price.

  • Not too impressed - 2003 Ford Taurus

This is my first Taurus, and overall is a decent package. Since new, it didnt idle smooth, ran rough, and surged when stopped in gear. After 400 miles Ford replaced half of the fuel system and fixed a rattle in the front inner fender. These are common issues. The first 4k or so I never got better than 20 MPG, but now I get 19 mpg city/ 24 mpg highway and average 22 mpg overall. The biggest gripe I have is with the seating. After driving long periods of time gives me back trouble. The root of the issue is the driver’s floorboard. As it comes back to the drivers seat it narrows and leaves little room.

The ride and comfort of the car is wonderful. It handles very well under all conditions. Plenty of interior room, and great for traveling! Great Car!

  • 2003 Taurus Wagon ride characteristics. - 2003 Ford Taurus
    By -

It rides like a tank. Every ridge in the road from tar to slight indentations becomes a loud bump. Inhigh speed expressway driving it is excellent until the road has cracks in it and it is very annoying going bump - bump-bump. Ive had it checked and everything is as it should be. It still rides poorer than any car Ive had. I traded a 1997 Escort wagon with 70000 miles for it. It has 15000 miles on it. The escort rode like a dream compared to this Taurus wagon

Its a company car given to me but I still love it. With all the driving I do, a flaw comes through quickly and this is one of the best all around cars for the money. Its roomy, quiet, safe and does everything well, although nothing exceptionally. Very good in snow. Head and shoulders above Dodge Stratus but probably not as relaible long term as Accord or Camry. We trade the cars at 80,000 and previous company Taruases have run well.
