This Year's Model Updates:

Floor mats become standard on all Taurus models, and the base V6 benefits from improved fuel economy. All but the base LX get security approach lamps, while LX and SE come standard with six-passenger seating. A slew of no-charge options are available on various Taurus models for 2002: SE gets a free power driver seat and CD player; SES comes with free leather or a moonroof (regionally available); SEL adds leather or moonroof, or both (regionally available). SEL also has standard adjustable pedals for 2002. A new SEL Wagon debuts. A new SEL premium package includes a Mach audio system, side airbags and traction control. Optional on SES and SEL is a new Luxury and Convenience group, which provides an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and heated side mirrors. Four new colors round out the list of changes.

Pros:
  • Excellent value for the money, high level of safety equipment and crash protection, available as a sedan or a wagon, usually discounted with rebates and incentives.
Cons:
  • Rental car stigma, poor expected resale value, no rear disc brakes on the sedan.

This is my first Taurus its a SES with leather, adjustable pedals, luxury/convenience group. The ride and handling are great and the standard engine is all the power that I need and am happy with gas mileage. It was made in Atlanta and fit and finish is great.

I bought my 2002 Taurus SE in January, and since then it has been a continual trip to the shop every 3 months for something different. Thank God you get a warranty. First the ignition switch kept me from being able to turn the key second the switch that controls shifting went bad third, this one will make you laugh, the battery shorted itself out? and just recently I had the right and left sway bars replaced. This car is priced way to high for the poor power the V6 seems to put out, the seats have no real support if you are in the car for extended periods, and the ride could be quieter. I would not recommend this car, not a good value for the money.

My wife as owned this car,two years now with 18,000 miles. Here is the list.Pick up car,AC,does not work,at 8,000 miles front arm needs to be replaced. The dealer asked us, do we drive on bumpy roads? At 15,000 miles the transmission goes.At 15,500 transmission leaks, needed a new oil stick!!!!.At 16,000 miles, the rear end seal is leaking, and at 16,900 the module had to be changed,by the motor.Seatbelts are cheap, and many times dysfunctional.Three recalls, seatbelts, brakes, and the radio. It as the duratech engine,a plus, but thats it.Service as been great, the owner says, what can I do,these things happen.Even the power windows squeak, buy lots of wd-40

I have a 1999 Taurus. I bought it certified from the dealer. It had 43000 miles on it when I bought it. At 75000 the transmission gave out. It was covered under the extended warranty I bought with the car. I had no problems dealing with Ford for the repair. It broke down 200 miles from my home, and even though I was far from my usual service dept., they treated me well, and repaired it in a reasonable amount of time. I have heard the 1999 tranis go out around 75000 pretty regularly, someting I wish I had known. Other than that...I love the car.

WE ARE VERY HAPPY WE LEFT TOYOTA AND DROVE BY FORD. GREAT SERVICE AND OUTSTANDING DOLLAR VALUE FOR A VERY NICE STATION WAGON (THE ORIGINAL SUV). SAVED ALOT OF MONEY AND RECEIVED ALOT MORE STANDARD FEATURES, INCLUDING REAR DISC BRAKES (SEL WAGON). BEEN DRIVING FORD TRUCKS FOR 20+ YEARS...FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY. WE EXPECT THE SAME FROM OUR TAURUS.

  • A great car for your money! - 2002 Ford Taurus

Overall, a very impressive and well built car. Though the smaller of the two 3.0 engines, it offers a very reasonable amount of performance. The only drawback is the lack of comfort in the seating. A trip of more than 30 minutes leaves the driver or front seat passenger itching to stop and stretch, and makes comfortably resting in the passenger seat near impossible.

Just got a CPV (certified pre-owned Vehicle) with 15000 miles on it. Love the car, price, and extended warrenty. Brake need improvement for new taurus because of a bit of fading. Otherwise great car, quite, smooth, and great price (13K).

I really didnt want another Taurus. I drove the Altima, Camry, Maxima, and Gallant. Did I mention I really didnt want another Taurus? But my friend said drive one anyway. I fell in love. New style is to die for. My model is fully loaded..some things are a little extravagant, but oh well!! Drives like a gem. Solid, hugs the road, sporty, practical, and GREAT price. Go ahead!! Splurge on the leather seats..its worth it!!
