This Year's Model Updates:

After the 2000 redesign, updates are minor. A Lower Anchor and Tether for Children (LATCH) is now standard on all models. LATCH is an anchoring system for child safety seats. Also new is Spruce Green Clearcoat Metallic, an increase in fuel tank capacity to 18 gallons, a six-disc CD changer standard on SES models, power locks standard on LX and an optional rear spoiler.

Pros:
  • Excellent value for the money, high level of safety, available as a sedan or a wagon.
Cons:
  • Rental car stigma, front seats lack comfort, no rear disc brakes on the sedan.

It is the best car I ever owned. I was tired of driving Toyotas. Next year, I plan on buying a new Taurus or Sable to replace it.

The price was right for a new car. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. I especially like the roomy trunk. The gas mileage is great for a car that has plenty of power for passing and freeway entry.

With the 24 valve performance is still not a word used but the 200 hp will push you up to 60 in about 8 seconds. Not bad but not good. Cornering is ok in this car but does have a problem with body roll. Again this car was designed for the less wealthy older folks.

I love the car, I was just dissapointed with the dealer because they didnt tell me the car had been a rental until I had paid for it. However, the car has been in fine working order. Its an excellent car for family or teenagers (Im a teenager).

  • 140,000 Miles! - 2001 Ford Taurus

As a salesman in the typical salesman vehicle, it did its job. I finally turned it in 140,000 miles later. 3 sets of front brakes, tires, a water pump, and a battery. The original battery gave out after only a year. The front rotors warp easily and brakes heat up too fast in the mountains. The steering wheel squeaks. It was a sled for power and had the turning radius of a truck, but held the road on winding roads. If you want a slow car that looks fast and is reliable, buy one. The price should come down quickly as companies are starting to sell off their fleet vechicles.

  • alot more noise - 2001 Ford Taurus

This is our 2nd taurus. We had a 1995 that we loved. we only had to repair the hood latch in 6yrs of ownership. the 2001 has been in the shop for more recalls than I would like. it is very noisy when traveling. we had to put new brakes and rotors at 24000 miles. the car is now making alot of front end noise. I dont like the wider tires either.I have talked to several people who said the car has a light rearend and have lost control in rain and snow because it comes around on you. dont like that either.Probably my last taurus

  • Decent Car - 2001 Ford Taurus

My 2001 Taurus is a good family car. It looks nice and is roomy inside with a large trunk. On the other hand it is boring to drive. I am also disappointed that it has drepreciated over 65% since I bought it new. In retrospect I wish I bought a two year old Tarus instead of a new one.

  • NEVER AGAIN - 2001 Ford Taurus
    By -

This is my 5th Ford and I say never again. this car has been in the repair shop so many times I have lost count ford has always fix it under warienty.Recently it has stalled on then freeway in heavy traffic and been in the shop 2 times for the transmision. The best part is that Ford says thier computer can not find a problem for either and they can not duplicate the problem. Anyway I say never again. This car is not dependable.

  • Solid Car - 2001 Ford Taurus

It is an all around good car...especially for what you can buy one for used. I have had mine for over two years and have had nothing but routine maintenance and have averaged about 22-23 mpg.

  • Ford Taurus, Mistake - 2001 Ford Taurus
    By -

Since the day I purchased this car I have problems. Starting with dealership, they played with numbers. wrote Ford a few times made several calls but useless. They do not cooperate have no control over the dealers. A few months later the keyless entry failed, AC fan making noise. The car sometimes hesitiates to pickup. Recently a dealer said it is a fuel filter, cost about $70, but it was not the problem. Complain to Ford again, customer service is polite but dealer again did not care what they are saying and what you are saying. Devalue more that 50% in less than 3 years with 25K miles. I would never let anyone buy Ford if I can.
