This Year's Model Updates:

Many changes are in store for the 2000 Taurus. Styling is the most obvious, with a new look for both the front and rear. Improved safety comes from a new airbag-deployment system, adjustable pedals, seatbelt pre-tensioners and child safety-seat anchors. The ride has been made more comfortable and the powertrain has been updated for more power and less noise. The V8-powered SHO has been dropped from the lineup.

Pros:
  • New styling, safety features, more power, good value for the money.
Cons:

  • Great Family Car - 2000 Ford Taurus

We have enjoyed this car in Texas region a lot. With two small children, the oversize trunk is a compromise to having a huge SUV with poor fuel economy. We feel that the safety of this vehicle is superior with great traction control for inclement weather and side curtain airbags. Inside is super comfortable with all the options of a luxury vehicle at a very affordable price!

  • a few problems but the dealer made good! - 2000 Ford Taurus

car was great until 40k. loud squeal under the hood. took three times for dealership to fix it. they made good with a free loaner (which was an ses and i hated to let go back). Turned out to be a bad water pump (1st), check engine back on (2nd), tension pulley bad (3rd). i chalk it up to poor part quality from fords suppliers!!!!

I bought this car on a lease in the first year of ownership I had it in the shop 5 times for the valve clanking. and horrific gas milage. Well I fianally gave up when they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the car. My lease is up and being 15k over the lease allowance - I will buy the car out right. I dont want another Ford this was my second. The saddest thing is it is the most comfortable car I could ask for and the safty features are great. Due I sacrifies gas gussling and clanking for cumfort?

  • lots of trouble - 2000 Ford Taurus

I bought this car used with 29k miles on it, and soon I started to get problem. First the passenger side leaked and the hood stuck. About a year latter got the headlight switch problem(Ford recalled for previous year model for this problem, but not 2000), then rear brake leaked. A lot of body roll, mechanics told me the struts were soft but not need to be replaced yet($600 job). Fan squeak during wet weather, steering also squeaks, one window rattles at high speed, and theres other unidentifiable squeak. Will dump it soon. I thought American cars had improved but I was wrong, this is my first Ford and will be the last.

  • My car review - 2000 Ford Taurus

I owned an 1987 ford taurus brand new in 3 months the ignition went, and went again after a year. The car stauled constanly after 25000 miles. Then in 2000 the new ones came out, and they were good looking. There were not many cars on the market that you could get key less entry, leather seats, and a 200hp V6 for under 20000 grand. So i decided to take it. Little did i know that there were 5 recalls in 3 years, and when they went to fix the recalls that seemed to be with the brakes, the switch, and tail lights they could never get it right. So I was back and forth to the dealership. So much fun right.

Very reliable and comfortable. Fun to drive. One of the tires (Firestone) went bad at 20000 miles.

  • Starting Problems - 2000 Ford Taurus

I am very disapointed with this car. I bought it used. It had 28K miles and was a least car. The problem started after about 7 months. It was then out of warranty. The problem is, on occasion it will not start. But if you wait a while, 10 minutes to an hour it will start. Ive had it to machanics 4 times. One time to the dealer, and know one can find the problem. This is my 2nd Taurus. The 1st one was an 89 with a similar problem. Never another Taurus. I am about to trade it on a 20043 Camry.

  • Our Favorite Car !! - 2000 Ford Taurus

I highly recommend the SEL, very luxurious interior. I purchased this from the showroom over 3 years ago and it has remains a new looking car. The only problem we have encountered is the keyless entry, it seems to get moisture in it and is not fully reliable. On the other hand, we probably run our Taurus through a car wash 3 times a week, and daily in the winter.

Ive put 92K on this car since June 2000 and have had to do nothing other than routine maintenance (oil changes, transmission flush). As I do mostly highway driving, I still havent had to change the brakes (even had the dealer look at the brakes twice to make sure).
