This Year's Model Updates:

Many changes are in store for the 2000 Taurus. Styling is the most obvious, with a new look for both the front and rear. Improved safety comes from a new airbag-deployment system, adjustable pedals, seatbelt pre-tensioners and child safety-seat anchors. The ride has been made more comfortable and the powertrain has been updated for more power and less noise. The V8-powered SHO has been dropped from the lineup.

Pros:
  • New styling, safety features, more power, good value for the money.
Cons:

  • What is all the fuss about? - 2000 Ford Taurus

Bought this car new because of the less than invoice ad in the paper. Car has been great except resale. Now has 49k and no repairs, just keeps purring along. Only complaint is engine pings in winter. Maybe because it is an LX, I have no options that can go wrong.

  • A good car that stills need improvement. - 2000 Ford Taurus

This is the 4th Taurus Ive owned, though may be the last unless some improvements are made in the base power and noise level Not as nice as the 93 LX I owned but much quieter than the 97 (sold after 2 weeks because of unbearable road and engine noise). A very sporty feel and tight suspension makes it a fun car to drive with a feeling of safety and comfort. Car has a cozy yet sporty feel. The 155hp Vulcan engine is underpowered, but does get you moving and is "adequate." (Ive tested the 200hp Duratec engine which is like a rocket.) Paid $3300 from a dealer, and I consider it a very good deal. But would not buy another one without improvments.

I have had little to no problem with the Ford Tauras. I drive 70 miles to work a day, and have a wonderful relaxing ride. I love this car.

  • Wish i bought a chevy - 2000 Ford Taurus

I bought a taurus when my 1994 chevy lumina with 235k miles started having tranny problems. since I bought this car I have replaced the brakes and rotors 3 times in 40k miles, replaced the headlight knob multiple times, and had it towed to the garage. the milage isnt great, the hump on the left side kills me. not well designed for people over 6 foot tall. I am really unhappy with this car but cant get rid of it becuase of the horrible resale value.

  • Crunching Sound From Brake Area - 2000 Ford Taurus

In 3.5 years, I have had 5 brake booster assemblies on my car including the original. Ford tells me that the crunching noise of the brakes is a "characteristic" of the car and now offers no solutions except to live with it. I have been to two dealers and have also talked to their Customer Service department. I know there are lots of others that have this problem because they told me about 80% of Taurus have this noise and they dont know of Ford actually doing anything about it. I look forward to the day I can get rid of the car and purchase either a Honda or Toyota something with a better reputation.

  • My 6th Taurus is the best yet - 2000 Ford Taurus

After my first five taurus I expected to do another transmissionb job and brakes on a regular basis, BUT this car has been great. Transmision shifts smothly and the brakes seem to not wear out so quickly. Fuel economy is better but the back seat entry puts your head at risk of hitting the rounded corners.

nice, reasonably priced wagon. more comfortable seats than Sable version

  • get the duratec!! - 2000 Ford Taurus

I purchased this car used in the spring of 2003. It had 48k on it, 55k now. I drove the Duratec(24v) powered Taurus and said this is what I want. This car is very comfortable, handles pretty good for a large family sedan, And, I have embarassed a couple souped up hondas and toyotas with the acceleration. It is not the fit and finish of a honda/toyota but I only paid 8900 for it. The only thing I would change about the my Taurus Brakes. Brakes are what every review complains about. They have not given me any trouble but the car does not stop very quickly. So if your shopping for a family sedan. Check out a Duratec (24V) Taurus.

  • Xlnt Taurus, but. - 2000 Ford Taurus

Overall v. good. I find that driving at speeds <70mph on California freeways and roads produces a better ride. Cross country driving, i.e., smoother highways afford better ride at higher speeds. Mileage is good in town (18-21 mpg) w/ a/c on. Highway mileage is 30mpg either way. I am very impressed w/the ABS brakes except that panic stops (?)tend to warp the front rotors. (A minor problem).
