  • Just Say No! - 1997 Ford Taurus

I thought I got a great deal on this car. Boy, was I wrong, sensor in tranny went out within 3 weeks of purchase. Ive spent more on this car than I purchased it for. I heard bad things about Fords before, now I understand why. Everything seems to be set up to cost us more money and put more in Fords pocket? Had electrical fire with it the other day for no apparent reason. The air conditioner just shut off and it started smoking under the hood. The relay fuse melted and fried the wires and component that the fuse plugs in to. I wish I wouldve headed advice of friends. This car should have been made more reliable. Ford didnt do a good job on this one. Parts are expensive and are not easily accessible when repairing.

  • FORD TAURUS (PIECE OF JUNK) - 1997 Ford Taurus

MY 1997 FORD TAURUS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. I NOW HAVE 60000 MILES AND I NEED A NEW TRANNY. I ALSO KNOW TWO OTHER PEOPLE, WHO OWN TAURUSES WITH COMPARABLE MILEAGE, THAT NEED NEW TRANSMISSIONS. I WILL NEVER AGAIN GET ANOTHER FORD. "GOOD RIDDENS"

  • Bad Bad Bad Bad transmission - 1997 Ford Taurus
    By -

My Taurus is about 60000 miles and 5 years, the only owner. I replaced a new transmission just after the warranty (only about 40000 miles), and got "Service engine soon" lighe on 3 times now.

  • Yes, I work for Ford... - 1997 Ford Taurus
    By -

And Im here to tell you: if you are thinking of buying one, dont! I have 50,000 miles on my car. I work for Ford, so I got the employee discount. I spent it ($1500) today. Heres what has gone wrong so far: * Front speakers bad - 4 times! * Door panels pop open when doors are shut, due to repeated dealer repairs. * Front door window channels pop out due to broken clips. * A/C compressor failed at 50,000 miles. $1500.00 for repair. Too much to list in 700 characters...

  • Why not to buy a 97 Taurus - 1997 Ford Taurus

Short and sweet: 5 starters, 2 transmissions,HORRIBLE DIM headlights, electrical problems galore, high depreciation, air bags deployed during a 7mph fender bender. Total cost to a 2001 Audi = $30 touch up paint, to my taurus $3700!! (shattered windshield, and deployment caused other dash problems [horn electrical- wouldnt turn off], plus the bags needed replacement),low torque when needed, inadequate tuned RPM sensor, ousy factory warranty, only 36k tells me I bought crap when the factory wont even stand behind it, so much for listening to a friend. If you planning on driving that ford, consider something else instead.

  • Do Not Buy a Ford - 1997 Ford Taurus

Just after warranty expired, transmission went out at 48,000 miles. We live in Germany in support of US military and Ford was of absolutely NO help. These cars are not built with European specs so it took us 6 months and $2500 to get it fixed. Again, no help from Ford! We have had problem after problem with things such as broken seat belt, interior door coming loose, broken CD player, etc...
