Overview & Reviews
This year's changes to the 1999 Ford Ranger include standard 15-inch silver styled wheels, a class III frame-mounted hitch receiver for V6 applications, and a spare tire access lock. All models get dual front cupholders and Dark Graphite has been added to the interior colors options list while Willow Green and Denim Blue have been removed as interior choices. The "Splash" model has been discontinued. A 3.0-liter V6 flexible fuel engine is available that is designed specifically for ethanol/gasoline fuel blends.
- The 1999 Ford Ranger continues to be a cutting edge truck with four-door entry, a five-speed automatic and optional flexible fuel/electric powertrains.
- The 1998 restyled body makes a failed attempt to outshine the current Dakota.

fool me once, shame on me, twice shame.... - 1999 Ford Ranger
By not job one - February 12 - 7:57 pmFor a small truck (4.0L) the mileage is too low. Full size GMC small V8 is near the same. Like all Ford pickups the front brakes are junk. Rotors rusted apart in less than 60,000km, $100 CAD each to replace. The front wheel bearings BOTH went at 107,000Km. $800.00 CAD to replace! Ive never known these bearings to fail in other trucks past 275,000km. GARBAGE! Just waiting for the $500 ball joints next. Dont buy this truck, get a Toyota instead.

Also never replaced the clutch. I am going on 5 years now with this one and no major repairs besides the general maintenace. Thank you Ford for the Ranger. i am looking at a Ford f-150 as my next purchase but the problem is I do not know when because the Ranger is still going strong.

A Great Truck! - 1999 Ford Ranger
By Spencer - December 30 - 10:00 amSince owning my baby, Ive never had a problem. I love my truck and have taken it just about everywhere. For a small truck, it can pull quite a bit. The only drawback I have noticed is the fuel economy, but there is a price to pay with everything! After driving a Toyota with no power at all, I knew that this was the truck for me!

A few problems - 1999 Ford Ranger
By Kyle Brashear - December 27 - 3:24 amFirst the engine I havent had any mechanical problems with the engine, it has 130,000 miles on it so far. I had to replace the bearings. The door ajar light used to stay on. The dome light has some issues. My speedometer cable currently isnt working. I get about 25 miles a gallon, with the 4 cylinder, which is pretty slow to me.

Useful truck - 1999 Ford Ranger
By Lkcalwood - July 10 - 2:00 amI have used this truck both in town, in the woods and on long highway trips. My only complaint is the under powered engine. Even with a 5 speed, it lacks power at highway speeds over 70 which is why I am buying a new one with the bigger 4.0 engine. I recommend it to anyone not needing the added hauling capacity of a full size truck. It never stranded me and has had very little problems. Aside from oil changes and tires, I probably have spent less than $200 in total on repairs.

By cjharris - May 29 - 2:00 amI love my Ranger!I travel the country and a dependable vehicle is what is delivered in this little truck.I make sure the oil is changed regular and the amount of driving i do, that could be once a month.Im at 159,000 and the only problem is a squealing noise that only occurs once in a while. The engine is accessible making maintanence a do- it-selfers dream.spark plugs, fluid changes

Ranger Sport, 4x4, Extended Cab XL/XLT - 1999 Ford Ranger
By Lisa Nunes - April 8 - 2:00 amAt 23,000 miles the drive shaft was already replaced twice. At 40,000 miles she has a cracked transfer case and at 80,000 a new transmission. a loud engine and a constant clunking when shifting gears makes its a poor buy. I suppose the only thing to love is the price. Fords response? Its normal! Look else where.......

1999 Ford Ranger XLT supercab - 1999 Ford Ranger
By Troy D - March 24 - 2:00 amI have had this truck since May of 2003 and have put about 25,ooo miles on it. It now has 47,780 miles on it and the only problem before now was with the battery cable. Now however my front suspension is creaking and squeaking (about to get checked) and my right rear speaker just out of the blue is busted. Overall it has been a good truck and will hopefully continue to be after these issues are fixed.
