This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Ford Rangers get a more aggressive raised hood and a partitioned grille that more closely matches that of other Ford trucks. Inside, seats have been revised to improve comfort, and leather upholstery is a new option. A new leather-wrapped, four-spoke steering wheel is available on some models, as is a floor console. New white-faced gauges are standard on all models, except the base XL. The Tremor model's 510-watt stereo now has MP3 capability, and other models are eligible for a 290-watt Pioneer Sound package with an in-dash CD/MP3 player. Additionally, the Tremor is available with four-wheel drive this year, and the off-road-ready FX4 gets an electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case. Sixteen-inch aluminum wheels are optional on two-wheel-drive Edge models, and an engine block heater is standard in select states.

Pros:
  • Strong 4.0-liter V6 engine, multiple trim levels and options, functional interior.
Cons:
  • Dated platform, weak base engines, no crew cab configuration.

I really liked my truck. It drove well and got fairly decent mileage (20MPG). If you noticed I have been referring to my truck in the past tense. I totaled it last week. The front wheel was knocked off, the cab was warped (drivers door would not shut) and the frame was bent in two places. The car that hit me was a Dodge Intrepid that hit me while sideways in the front left corner of the bumper and continued through the wheel. The truck held together well and I and the other driver walked away without any serious injuries. I had it for a year and a half and received from the insurance company about $1000 less than what I paid for it. Im buying another just like it. I also have an 88 w/250k miles.

Loved this vehicle since the day I bought it, had no problems with it. I live in an area where a 4x4 is a must and it doesnt miss a beat in mud or snow. The 4.0L is not as powerful as some of its competition but it fits the trucks size. A better pick than a full size pickup if you dont have a family.

I bought this truck for work and have used it for work. I have hauled cars from 3000 pounds up to 6000 pounds. I have had 1800 pounds in the box and begs for more. This trucks gives 100% when it works. It loves to work. I paid $13,500 for it and I love it. I just have the 3.0 with the 5 speed auto torqueshift. I have 3.73 gears. The gas mileage hurts but what do you expect. If you want gas mileage buy a dang Honda. If you want a great truck for work buy a Ford Ranger.

This is my second Ranger, and I have loved both of them. I upgraded to the Edge and love all of the additional bells and whistles (especially the sound system). My only complaint would be the gas mileage. I do more than the average driving, so I spend more time than the average at the pump.

This truck is great. It out-performs my every expectation. It feels like it can conquer all, but is still comfortable and practical for everyday use. Its been strong and reliable for over a year now. Its a great value and never lets me down.

  • Getting too old - 2004 Ford Ranger

For the money, for a 4WD, the 2004 Ranger is a good buy for the money. BUT, it is basically the same Ranger I drove in 1993, with two more Mickey Mouse doors. Almost impossible to get in a 5 speed manual transmission. While the 4.O liter engine is good, youd think after all the years of producing it they could refine in a little better gas mileage. (Consistently getting 17 mpg and I dont hit the gas peddle very hard, very often, and get that mileage.). Truck wont hold a candle to the new Toyota I bought this year.

My Ranger is a fine vehicle, smooth ride, excellent handling & power to match. The exterior design is also a plus factor, having conformed to the changing times by having that sleek look but maintains the distinct Ford body style (a manly style). Only Ford & Chevy have been able to keep their trucks the way I like em! I must add however that the Ranger was sort of a poor choice for me. I am 61" & 240lbs. I am not uncomfortable in my Ranger but I still, after six months, cant seem to get to seat adjusted right and my head is .25 of an inch from the ceiling. I am comfortable even driving for long periods. Recommend 2004 Ford Ranger. But us "Big Guys" need "A Full Size Baby".

This is my third Ranger Truck and by far the nicest. I like the new two-toned high back seats and interior design. This truck is small enough for decent gas mileage yet is roomy inside and has enough power to get you where you want to go.

I have driven rangers simlar to mine at work everyday for 2 1/2 years. I blew one up (it was a 4 cyl) at 256,000 miles...these trucks last! I got the 3.0 which I also used at work...the one at work has 190,000 and is strong. Never had a major problem! I wouldnt blow smoke to you, these are awesome trucks!
