This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Ford Rangers get a more aggressive raised hood and a partitioned grille that more closely matches that of other Ford trucks. Inside, seats have been revised to improve comfort, and leather upholstery is a new option. A new leather-wrapped, four-spoke steering wheel is available on some models, as is a floor console. New white-faced gauges are standard on all models, except the base XL. The Tremor model's 510-watt stereo now has MP3 capability, and other models are eligible for a 290-watt Pioneer Sound package with an in-dash CD/MP3 player. Additionally, the Tremor is available with four-wheel drive this year, and the off-road-ready FX4 gets an electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case. Sixteen-inch aluminum wheels are optional on two-wheel-drive Edge models, and an engine block heater is standard in select states.

Pros:
  • Strong 4.0-liter V6 engine, multiple trim levels and options, functional interior.
Cons:
  • Dated platform, weak base engines, no crew cab configuration.

MY FIRST FORD RANGER AND IM NOT TOTALLY SATISFIED. I LOVE THE LOOKS AND THE COMFORT, BUT READY TO GO!! AT 6,OOO MILES THE CLAMPS ON RADIATOR BROKE. LOST HALF MY FLUID ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND. THEN THE MAIN OIL SEAL WAS LEAKING. HAD TO REPLACE. NOW THE REAR DOOR RATTLES. SOMETIMES THE TRANS SLIPS. MAY NOT BUY AGAIN. FUEL ECONOMY WAS DECEIVING. ROUGH.

  • Great 4X4 Value - 2004 Ford Ranger

I have owned my 2003 FX4 Level II for right at one year now, and it has been everything that I hoped it would be. If you are thinking of getting one of the two off road packages offered in FX4 trim, definitely go with the Level II. I think it is the best value compact 4X4 pickup on the market. I would definitely buy another... but maybe not black next time.

I recently purchased a 2004 Ford ranger XLT 2.3 16v with a 5 speed manual. The truck drives fine but the only thing lacking again is horse power. The vehicle has 143 horse power but feels as though it has 115 horse power.

  • My Truck - 2004 Ford Ranger

I just recently purchased a used 2002 Ford Ranger EDGE supercab 4 Door. The truck has 4x4 and handles perfect in the snow. I would recommend this truck to anyone.

  • Economy that works - 2004 Ford Ranger

The acquisition cost at the end of the season sold me on the Ford Ranger. Incentives and discounts comprised 25% of the acquisition. Thus a new vehicle and warranty for the price of a used vehicle. The vehicle has a solid feel and good road manners. Handles corners well. Economy is what it is for a truck but performance of the little v-6 is better than the test on a 4 cylinder. I have friends who have close to 200.k on thier truck. that also sold me on the Ranger.

  • Solid truck, American Glitches Remain - 2004 Ford Ranger
    By -

This truck is still new to me, but I have a strong sense of it already. Its solid, comfortable and powerful, but the build quality is American all the way. I have already had it in the shop for a mis-aligned door and a malfunctioning wiper switch. I have owned a number of imports (Japanese and Korean) and have never had to return them to the dealer the first week. It seems I have had to return every american vehicle I have owned for some type of repair/adjustment. Speaks poorly of American workmanship, Im sorry to say.

  • rangers driver seat - 2004 Ford Ranger
    By -

if you have anykind of lower back problem do not buy this truck the drivers seat is built with a hump in the middle of the seat and there is no way to get comfortable on long drives, short trips is bad enough

  • Very Good Small Truck - 2004 Ford Ranger
    By -

If youre looking for a good small truck you really cant go wrong with this one. Holds its value well. Since there are a billion of them parts are cheap and plentiful. My only recommendation is that if you get the super cab, you want to get the 4.0 liter V6. The 3 liter is a little small for that big of a truck. And the mileage difference is not that great.
