Overview & Reviews
Ford introduces its brand-new five-speed automatic transmission to the 1997 Ford Ranger lineup. Available with the V6 engines, the five-speed automatic is designed to improve the Ranger's acceleration, towing and hill-climbing ability.
- Great looking compact truck with a cornucopia of engine choices and options.
- We wish the base engine were stronger, and that a third door was offered.

Ford has the best trucks hands down - 1997 Ford Ranger
By AndyTruck1 - April 10 - 2:00 amI now have 190000 miles and have only replaced clutches and normal wear. It has great power, better handleing and has never left me stranded. Anyone who says different is dumb.

love my truck - 1997 Ford Ranger
By mac_712 - March 8 - 2:00 amI was told before buying that it was under powered. But I have found the 4.0L engine to have plenty of power. The seats are very comfortable.Gas mileage could be a bit better but I dont baby my vehicles either. This is my first 4x4 and I will never do without 4wd again. The only repairs I have had in the 2 years I have owned this truck is replacement of a couple of sensors in the EGR system and the 2 front u-joints on the front axles have been replaced. I have been told that the u-joints usually need replaced at around 75000 mi and mine lasted 87000 so I cant complain.

Ford, America s Best - 1997 Ford Ranger
By Gerard - February 28 - 2:00 amOverall, the 1997 Ford Ranger Super is a very good vehicle. Its number one conveniencing brand I would place upon this vehicle is its saftey. Ford truely have lived up to "Built Ford Tough" slogan. However, I think that all of the models should be standardized with a V6 engine. This would make this vehicle more attractive to buyers and provide a more complete feeling when driving.

Ford Ranger XLT a great truck! - 1997 Ford Ranger
By MikeZ - January 20 - 2:00 amThis is the best vehicle Ive ever owned and I bought it 5 years old with 68,000 miles. The ride is great and the performance of the 4.0L V6 is excellent. A very refined vehicle, it feels more like a sports car than a pickup truck.

Great Truck - 1997 Ford Ranger
By hobbs - September 2 - 2:00 amI love driving this truck. Its ride is more like a car than a truck. It starts with only 2 or 3 turns of starter...every time...I like its looks, willow green with matching interior..Also has a fiberglass tonneau cover which makes it look sharp..Everything works, even all light bulbs...Its a manual shift, which makes it fun to drive....It has never let me down and its got 192000 miles on the odometer.

A great vehicle! - 1997 Ford Ranger
By mrbower - August 10 - 2:00 amI have owned many vehicles, including ultra-luxury models, and this is the most reliable, most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. I purchased it from the dealer with 15000 miles on it and the only problem it has ever had was the adjustment switch for the driver side o/s mirror failed and was replaced under warranty. The 4.0 engine has enough power for any situation and gets reasonable economy for its size. Handling is superb. My next vehicle will probably be a Ford SUV, as I will be needing a little more room.
