Overview & Reviews
For the 1996 Ford Ranger, an optional passenger-side airbag is now available, and it comes with a switch that will disable the system if a child seat is installed in the truck. Super Cab models get standard privacy glass, Splash models lose that putrid green tape stripe, and the Flareside box from the Splash is now available on two-wheel-drive, four-cylinder XL and XLT models.

Great little truck - 1996 Ford Ranger
By Mdixon - March 30 - 2:00 amThis was my first new vehicle. I got it off the lot with 12 miles on it. No real complaints. this truck really is built ford tough. i hit a deer about 2 years ago. Airbag deployed and the fiberglass pieces and lights were all messed up. all messed up. got a new airbag and lights etc and got back on the road. no engine trouble. radiator was well protected. shes getting old and bouncy on bumps now tho, but shes got 170000 miles on it. check engine light has been on since i hit 50,000 miles. needs a $150 replacement sensor or something, but still runs well.

Me Ranger - 1996 Ford Ranger
By J30rdesign - March 23 - 2:00 amI have had no problems with my truck. I was told to just keep the oil changed and I would never have a problem. Well they were right. I have driven this truck hard, beat it up and it still wants more! Great Truck

Reliable Truck - 1996 Ford Ranger
By Arty304 - March 15 - 2:00 amThis is a good basic reliable compact truck. I own the 4 cylinder 2.3L model with a five speed. For the higher elevations of Colorado its a little underpowered, but around town and the plains its fine. A good quality truck.

Great first truck - 1996 Ford Ranger
By Danop - September 28 - 2:00 amThe only thing I can think of that I dont like about this truck is the 8 spark plugs on the 2.3L engine. It was a great starter truck but I am looking to get a extended cab 4X4

One of the best values available - 1996 Ford Ranger
By Lovinit - May 7 - 2:00 amThe 4.0 liter, V-6 is smooth and makes for a fun, quick truck with good hauling ability. Engine runs like a dream if you treat it right. Transmission isnt the smoothest, but it is holding up well. Body doesnt rust easily. Brakes are good, not great. It handles like a truck. Interior is well designed and slick. If you want a reliable used truck, I dont think you could get a better one than this for the price.

would/will buy another - 1996 Ford Ranger
By dbatw - April 27 - 2:00 amOriginal owner. Daily commute to work vehicle. Have hauled everything from topsoil and bedfull of mulch to furniture and big screen TV. Very dependable. Fun to drive. The 4cyl gets good gas mileage and is no slouch when paired with 5spd manual. Good feel to the tranny/clutch combo. Powerful a/c and heater. It is amazing how popular you are with friends when you are the one with the truck.

Ranger stands on Reliability - 1996 Ford Ranger
By Mdtguy - January 28 - 2:00 amIve now owned my Ranger for 4 years and through Minnesota Winters of -10 to -15 below zero at nights it always starts and runs very well. It has always been a very reliable truck. It has a nicely designed dash when speaking of controls for air, heat and they work well too.The real only negative is I have had off and on issues with my check engine light turning on and I have it checked and they cant make sense of it. I have had 3 different shops look into this issue and get nowhere.

I hate Check Engine lights - 1996 Ford Ranger
By Ford Sucks - November 19 - 2:00 amOther than the pesky check engine light coming on for the same reason for over 6 months, its been a great truck, except when the light comes on for a vapor return canister over and over again, especially when you are trying to sell the vehicle. I will never buy a Ford again. I think Ill stick to the Toyotas for now.
