  • 12 years and still going strong - 1993 Ford Ranger

This is my second Ranger. The first was an 83 that had over 150k and as far as I know is still going. The 93 has been a real work horse for me and now has 100k on it. Basic mechanical wear with very little rust. I live in the Boston area and the winter conditions are hard on all cars. The Ranger has performed well. I am now looking to buy a 2005. Only because I would like some extras this time.

I bought this Ranger with 65k miles on it. I never intended to have this many miles on the truck, but it just keeps running. I had a pin hole in the radiator at 165,000 replaced the transmission, water pump, clutch and ball joints at 185,000, (nothing was broken I just thought it was time to replace before they broke. My next vehicle will be a Ford Ranger! But not until I am done with this one.

Bought new in spring 93 and its only at 96K nowstill looks/runs about as good as new. Beyond regular maintenance weve done no repairs other than replace a cracked clutch slave and deal with the poorly-designed parking brake. All the heat shields have been removed after they started to fall off (or rattle) over the years. Note: this V6 burned about 1 qt oil every 1,500 miles since it was new-- Ford claimed this was "within spec" and its never really changed. Re-torquing the intake manifold bolts seemed to help for a while, but it certainly didnt stop the oil use.

i have had the truck for about a year now, and i must say, stock the truck is peppy but after a few modification the truck has potential. i have a 93 Ford ranger splash with the 3.0 v6, i just put 1300 into it, new clutch, slave cylinder, timing chain, water pump, fan clutch, and rear transmission seals. Great truck though, its Ford Tough

I bought this truck new in 1993. I have had another vehicle most of the past 10 years, so the mileage isnt too high (80K). Other than the leaks others have written about, no major problems or unplanned expenses. Exterior has held up well. Interior fabrics, carpet, and trim have held up very well. It is relegated to being a hauler & airport parker (to keep my "good" car safe at home), but Im planning to keep it another 10 years.

  • Great Truck!!! - 1993 Ford Ranger

This has been a great truck! Honestly, I havent taken care of it like I should have & it needs a little tranny work but it still runs great! Its got 192,000 miles with the original tranny, front & rear ends, & brake calipers. It has great brakes & the manual transmission makes it a blast to drive. Ive been in newer ones and prefer my 93. Its just comfortable & fun to drive.

  • ok, but sluggish - 1993 Ford Ranger

i like to drive my truck, but it is a lil sluggish with its underpowered v6 and 4x4 that doesnt help since there is no axle lock(posi lock) of any kind. also gas mileage isnt what i expected when i bought it.

  • Loves the abuse - 1993 Ford Ranger

My Ranger has the 4.0L V6 and 5 speed manual. Purchased when I was in high school in 1997 with 55,000 miles. It was my first vehicle, so of course it was abused early in our relationship. Now, with 120,000 miles - it just wont quit. Still gets 21+ mpg highway, and the torquey engine has not faded. Replaced the clutch at 85,000 but that was the only major repair. Reliability is almost unbelievable.
