This Year's Model Updates:

Heavily updated is the 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra, which makes 390 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque thanks to the addition of an Eaton supercharger. A new six-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels through a 3.55 rear axle ratio. Larger wheels and tires come standard, along with stiffer springs and a tubular cross brace. Cobra convertibles have a cloth top, while both cars get new seats with upgraded leather and suede upholstery. A limited-production Mach 1 model arrives later in the year with a massaged 4.6-liter V8 engine making at least 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, a functional shaker hood with ram-air scoop, black striping, unique leather seating and retro-design Magnum 500 alloy wheels, and, of course, a Mach 460 audio system. Mach 1 can be ordered in a variety of colors with either a manual or automatic transmission. Like the Mustang Bullitt before it, the Mach 1 comes with a lowered, retuned suspension and additional frame rail connectors for a stiffer body. Large 13-inch Brembo front rotors and upgraded calipers are standard.

Standard V6 and V8 GT models change little for 2003. A V6 Pony Package includes 16-inch polished alloy wheels and the GT's scooped hood. All V6 models get a new hood design, and four new colors debut.

Pros:
  • Available V8 power, variety of trim levels, healthy dose of American attitude.
Cons:
  • Archaic structure, aged design.

  • There is no other pony car....period! - 2003 Ford Mustang

Waited 30 years for the experience! I bought her brand new 5 years ago, never regreted a day. The mileage is fine for this kind of car. Just add on some simple bolt on parts and the power picks up even more. It is a premium GT Coupe, so the leather seats make it comfortable on long trips. It has been totally reliable...even the battery is still original. She is pampered..yes, but it takes all I dish out, the (Traction Control light) comes on a lot. That tells you how hard I can be. 25 miles highway, 20 around town. After all these years I love driving it everyday. We love it so much we also now own an 04 Mach1. Keep those new Camaros and Challengers coming out, theyll make a splash and disappear.

I just got this car last month, but from what I can see so far its great. Im 6ft 185 pounds, and I fit just fine in it, I dont even need the seat all the way back, and 4 people can fit in it, just so long as they arent huge. I get 20mpg average... and thats with getting on it a few times a day.

500 miles in and this is the best car Ive ever owned. Mean looks and power come together in a beast of a car. Fun around town or on the highway. Again, best car Ive ever owned.

  • Love the Mach1 - 2003 Ford Mustang

This is a vehicle that is a pleasure to drive. If you like power it will always put a smile on your face. Dont expect to put passangers in the back but thats not really what this car was made for. This car is also a major attention grabber ( Azure Blue) everyone from all walks of life just have to get a look.

  • The Musclecar Lives!!! - 2003 Ford Mustang

I have loved every minute of owning this vehicle over the last year. SVT and the SVT Owners Association have made it even more enjoyable. The sponsorship by Ford in promoting the SVT community is incredible. This is the Mustang I have waited for Ford to build. The guys at SVT are my heroes.

  • I love my 03 Mach 1 - 2003 Ford Mustang

I waited 2 years for them to decide to build this car. Aanother 7 months to build mine. Its my daily driver. I love it. Has had only minor issues which Ford has immediately taken care of. I have an Azure Blue 5 spd and wouldnt trade it for anything (except maybe the 04 Competition Orange Mach 1). The gas mileage isnt bad, it does require premium, but I knew that when I bought it. Shifts smoothly, sounds beautiful. Super comfortable ride.

  • Mustang again 30 years later - 2003 Ford Mustang

Fun to drive. Handling is crisp and responsive. Power is unbelievably raw. Shifting is a tricky with the location of the overdrive. Visability is superb. Would have been great if there had been a hatch like my 74 Mach I. Drivers power seat takes a lot of adjustment to get it in a position that feels comfortable. When tilting the front of the seat up it lifts the entire seat. 6 CD stereo is dynamite, as is the throaty groan from the exhaust.

  • Awesome first car - 2003 Ford Mustang

I received my Mustang for my first car and I have loved driving it for the past three years. It turns heads, provides the get up and go needed for passing on the interstate and has decent milage for a sports car (averages 20mpg in town and on the highway). I have never had even the slightest problem with the reliability of this vehicle. The only thing that concerns me is that it is totally a warm weather vehicle, in the midwest where we can get a few feet of snow at a time, the RWD and light overall weight of the car just is not safe enough even in town on snow-packed streets. Also, for long drives, even my young back begins to hurt. Even with these criticisms, I still love my Mustang.

I have wanted a Mustang since I was a kid and this car doesnt disappoint. Handles great, fun to drive, good speed. Whats not to love?
