This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Ford Mustang is completely redesigned.

Pros:
  • Solid V8 power in GT models, about as well mannered as a solid axle suspension can get, slick retro interior, much improved cabin ergonomics.
Cons:
  • No side curtain airbags or stability control, seats could use more lateral support.

I bought my Mustang at the end of March, and I love it. The design is aggressive and stands apart from the rest of the "bubble cars" on the road today. I was surprised at how high the side windows are, giving a "chop top" feel. I cannot get over how much fun this car is to drive. I now look for excuses to drive somewhere or lengthen my trips. My car is sonic blue with white stripes, and it really turns heads. Instant celebrity. Im glad I got the premium model, as I think Id be disappointed with a base model. The car I purchased was special ordered with the My Color dash backlighting, which I think is silly, but fun to play with. The engine is more accessible than other new cars too.

My first convertible! Coming from an SUV I worried about driving a car. This is fun, fun, fun. Love the retro look inside and out. Although I downsized it is roomier than expected. I can pack up for the beach in no time. Good pick up, glides through traffic, even in the rain.

Before purchasing a manual make sure to test drive both automatic and manual and see and feel the difference. I test-drove the manual and found that because of the small windows it increases the blind spots. I ended up buying the automatic and havent regretted it yet.

The 05 Mustang is everything promised. Handles great, acceleration is terrific, very comfortable interior. Two good size guys fit in the front seats with space between us ! Rear seat is tight, great for kids. Sound system is very good (Shaker 500 ). CD player a little shaky. Warnings about Mustang being sloppy on wet roads and snow were exaggerated. Traction control a big help. This car turns a lot of heads as it passes. Combination of looks (mine is black w/ upgraded red interior & dash) and sound as you hit the gas. First car in 20 years that Ill keep.

I purchased the vehicle in April of this year for $22,800, its the first one that I have owned. I am very pleased with the fit and finish. The body style screams Mustang. Its sonic blue with white strips. Interior is tan with cloth seats and Shaker 500 stereo system. I was very surprised with the ride on the highway; it is very smooth with no wind noise -- in town its a little bumpy. Performance is good for a V6. I get 19 MPG in town and 25.7 on the highway. I guess the only complaint that I have is the engine is a little buzzy around the 1700 RPM range, other than that it is an excellent buy.

  • Late-Life Crisis... - 2005 Ford Mustang

My 5th Mustang since 85, two of which were GTs and two were Cobras; now this one. Mine is the automatic, tan interior with Legend Lime body color. I remember April of 1964 and the unveiling of the new "pony car". $2,400 and it was yours. 41 years and an additional $28K brings me the freshened 05 iteration. Time and prices have changed but this new version of a well loved nameplate gives us "boomers" an opportunity to recapture a bit of our "free love and go fast" attitudes long lost in the fury of modern living. The Ford finally did it right; went back to basics and restored the visuals and added some topnotch engineering. The car is fun to drive and look at!

  • GT Convertible Impression - 2005 Ford Mustang

Ive had my GT vert for a month and have put 2,000 miles on it. Love the appearance and all the compliments from strangers who just walk up and want to talk about the car. Wished the 2005 had some of the features that were in the prototypes but not included, like 18" wheels and the decorative intake cover. There were minor convenience things that were not included in 2005, like interior trunk release that I was disappointed in. The car is fast, but like many Mustang owners I want it to go faster. Computer thinks too much and the throttle by wire causes a delay when accelerator is floored for passing and merging. Would highly recommend but there are few tweaks that need to be done.

This is the first sports car I found that I can fit into being 67". I could drive it long distances without being cramped.

  • Best car ever owned! - 2005 Ford Mustang

The car even at idle sounds great, but punching this thing is a pure adrenaline rush. It pushes hard, but is very confident. The looks are striking, especially with the red leather interior, and I always get thumbs up from people I pass up. Even in the parking lot tons of people come to look at the car. This car is really impressive. I have the manual, and it is very forgiving. Even at 400rpm the engine still turns, and you dont have to switch gears near as much as a small engined car. Seats are VERY comfortable, the mycolor feature is cool, and the shaker 500 system sounds great. MPG isnt that great, but you cant expect much for a car with this much grunt. Wont trade for nothing.
