This Year's Model Updates:

The new model year brings a handful of changes for the Mustang. V6 models can now get the Pony Package, which includes an upgraded suspension with larger stabilizer bars, 17-inch wheels, ABS, traction control, foglamps and unique trim. The GT gains two additional wheel options, both 18 inches in size, complemented by unique suspension tuning. An additional darker aluminum interior trim upgrade package is now available.

Pros:
  • Solid V8 power in GT models, about as well mannered as a car with a solid-axle rear suspension can get, slick retro interior, good cabin ergonomics.
Cons:
  • No side curtain airbags or stability control, seats could use more lateral support, low-grade interior plastics.

I decided to buy my first convertible at the age if 46 and was aiming for the new Solstice. But due to non-availability and threat of paying $5-$10K over MSRP, I opted for the Mustang and went all out. First benefits were the lower cost and the ability to put my sons in the back seat for family drives in the rolling hills of Virginia. I picked up the car and was home before my family. When they arrived they could not believe I bought the car. We all jumped in for a quick trip with the top down. As we sped down the road I looked in the rearview mirror and all I could see were gigantic grins. My first car was a 67 Mustang and here I am again with a similar looking edition. Its great!

  • Probably the best Mustang ever built. - 2006 Ford Mustang

Not everyone remembers the early Mustangs, but I do. Although they were a groundbreaking design, automotive technology has progressed to a point unimaginable in 1967. This Mustang takes advantage of everything known about how to build a great car and puts it all together in a retro package that is a work of styling art. The designers took the best styling cues from the 1960s models and added a touch of modern style to make a beautiful machine that performs better than the originals ever could. Even the gas sipping V6 models outperform the 289 V8 models of the 1960s, especially in regards to handling and braking.

  • I think Im in LOVE - 2006 Ford Mustang

Ive been in love with the Mustang since I was 16 (and learned that you cant insure a 16 year old on a Mustang with my parents income). Twenty years later, and I finally got my dream car. Redfire metallic, pony package, V6 because I still cant afford insurance on a GT. Since most of my cars have been 4 cylinders, Im not missing any power. The price was surprisingly low. The car is kind of huge considering its a SPORTS car, but I love it. Its heavy and has an excellent safety rating. It turns corners like its on rails. It gets up to the speed limit way before any other car Ive ever owned.

  • 500 miles...Review #1 - 2006 Ford Mustang

I restored a 67 Mustang Fastback and then sold it when I got married 8 years ago. Since then, Ive been wishing for a replacement. Well, my wish finally came true. This car not only fills my need for the retro styling (outside and in) but also gives me the modern conveniences and safety of a 2006 model. Sitting behind the wheel and turning the key puts a smile on my face every time. Cruising in this car is exciting and comfortable. The seating position is confidence inspiring since you have all controls at your fingertips. Since Im still under 1000 miles, I have yet to rev it up past 3000 RPM. I will add another review in a month or so regarding performance. First gas tank I got 21 MPG.

  • Absolutely A Fun Car... - 2006 Ford Mustang

Always wanted a little pony, and what I got was one with a lot of power and a pretty smooth ride for a sports car. It is the most fun to drive and it is definitely a head turner with its top down. I have had more compliments on this car than i had during my 35 years of driving! Ive had the car about a month now and I find it very comfortable inside and easy to drive. The stereo is super. I love the idea of the changing interior colors on the dash as well as the other features you would expect in a luxury car. The exterior is awesome. I have yet to take it on a long trip to see the gas mileage highway driving. I recommend this car to anyone looking for a sports car.

  • Cant Believe I Got One - 2006 Ford Mustang

For the price paid I couldnt find anything as much fun on the market. The only thing that surprised me at first was the acceleration with the V6 and 5 speed. I thought it would feel faster and I started to be disappointed until I looked at the speedo and saw how fast I was going. This is going to take getting used to if I want to obey speed limits.

I have had my Red Fire 2006 V6, 5 speed coupe for a month now. The more I drive it the happier I am I bought it. Having come from ownership of smaller Japanese economy oriented vehicles in the recent past this car was a dramatic change for me. I owned both a 69 and 70 Mustang in the somewhat distant past. My 06 is all that those cars were and so much more! The performance from the 4.0 lt. V6 is impressive. It is deceptively fast and has a very V8 feel and sound to it. The cars handling is very planted, responsive and predictable. I did a 200 + mile fun trip in the twisty mountain roads to the west of here and had a grin on my face the whole time.

  • Fantastic Car - 2006 Ford Mustang

I have owned a lot of cars. This is definitely one of my favorites. It is fun to drive. I can actually put my 4 year old in his car seat in the back seat, and it isnt a bad fit. Forget adults however.

  • Fun Car! - 2006 Ford Mustang

Ive only put 700 miles on this car since December 05, as its winter in WI, but thus far, its been fun! I was impressed that it will move on SNOW, as my 96 Mustang GT would not. Ford did a good job adding traction control. The plastic interior could have been dressed up better even though I do have the interior upgrade; without it, would be boring. Punching the accelerator, it moves from 0 to 60 in a heartbeat. Have auto transmission; it seems to shift very quickly through the gears. Am keeping an eye on the 500 Shaker as the CD player is already starting to skip. Like the leather seating, but they could have went a bit richer with the leather. At $28,000 getting a hot head turning car, its great!
