  • Great car, far exceeded my expectations - 2014 Ford Focus
    By -

Have 13,000 miles now. Ive driven new foreign cars for the past decade, and this is by far my favorite car. I feel like I stole this car from Ford it was such a good value. I get 35 mpg combined which is above EPA. Mine is a manual SE w/ sport package. Highly recommend this combo if youre concerned about reliability of SYNC and the auto transmission. I didnt mind the auto, but heard about technical issues, so I just avoided. The 5 sp manual isnt the best, isnt the worst. Nice clutch feel. The sport package upgrades to nice firm seats. I love them, but might be too firm for some. The car feels lightweight but incredibly solid and well built. Quiet and smooth on the freeway.

  • Lemon? - 2014 Ford Focus

After owning a Ford Focus EV for a year, I advise consumers to be very skeptical about them. I loved it at first, until the battery died several times at stop lights! We were told it needed a software update to fix the problem. That seemed to work for several months, until the battery died completely again. Having an almost brand new car and then having to deal with towing, figuring out how to get to work with out it, etc., is a tremendous hassle and downside. There are no substitute cars because substitutes wont be able to use the car pool lane. Dealers have very little knowledge about the Focus EV, which also is incredibly frustrating. Overall, a very bad experience with this car.

  • Final Choice Mazda 3 or Focus Titanium - 2014 Ford Focus

So I finally made up my mind. I was considering a Mazda 3 but in the end I bought the Ford Focus Titanium w/handling PKG. I could not get over the UGLY pod on the Mazdas dash. This is my first Ford and I hope I dont regret it. Although I read countless reviews and words of wisdom from critics I decided that the issue with the transmissions was one of understanding instead of criticizing. Once you understand the way it works then it is easier to overcome its quirks when you compare to a fully auto tranny. I like it! Overall the car has exceeded my expectations. Considering the cars heritage and Fords intentions when they design this car I feel it is a great European flavor Ford.

  • Hope they improve over the base - 2014 Ford Focus

This model was a basic, however by 50k miles was showing tranmission issues. Could be a lemon could be beaten up by another driver. However this model slipped in and out of drive and reverse. Performance was bad because the transmission slipped. Once the transmission caught up it was decent in preformance. Other then some issues this vehicle may have been a nice vehicle. Ample interior space, decent seats, good size trunk, and easy to drive.

  • This is a great car! - 2014 Ford Focus

I thought this car was going to be too small, but I was very wrong. My husband is 64" and he sits comfortably in the driver and passenger seats. The look of the car is stylish, and it handles very well. The manual transmission shifts beautifully. It was a great value, too! Overall, this is a great car. My only complaint is the lack of leg room in the back seat. As a result, this is not our main family car because we have 2 growing kids and another on the way. But for just my husband and I, the car is great.

  • Surprised - 2014 Ford Focus

Test drove 2014 Ford Focus SE 5spd, and was surprised. Thought it would be too small, that wouldnt like "overly busy" infotainment area of car. Liked it, bought one. Good manual transmission. Heard people didnt like auto trans. Had driven dual clutch auto-manual vws, didnt like. Car is small, need to plan out where to put things, small car ride. Could use a sixth gear on highway, but fun to drive, feels well-made. Getting 39mpg+ on ride back and forth to work. Curvy, hilly back roads. Do upshift when lighted arrow tells me to do so. Seems engine would lug, but it doesnt. Am in fifth gear by 35mph! Very likable car. Got great deal. First black car. Handsome.

  • Fun to drive, comfortable and quiet - 2014 Ford Focus

We have about 1300 miles on my new Focus Titanium Hatchback, black. We purchased the special handling package. I love how the car drives, suspension is solid but comfortable, steering is tight and responsive. Its not a race car or the ST for that matter, but it has a sporty, peppy performance and gets incredible gas mileage. We have a van and use this car to commute to work, run errands, etc.. did I mention - gas mileage is amazing! The car is quiet, comfortable and has all the bells and whistles. I would not hesitate to take it on a long trip. As a rule I am not a fan of compact cars but this one has me sold - Its a fun car and my wife and I both look forward to driving it!

  • First New Car - 2014 Ford Focus

This is "my" first brand new car and I have to say, it is wonderful. My wife bought a brand new Mitsubishi in 2011 and my Focus has been a better experience all around.

  • Do not buy this car! - 2014 Ford Focus

Before you do anything, Google "2014 Ford Focus Transmission Problems." Youll find that thousands of people have had the exact same problem Im about to recall on here. On the third day of owning this car the transmission started to slip and shutter. I took it to Ford and they said it was "normal" and sent me on my way. Three weeks later the seals near the clutch started to leak as a result of the shuttering, so they kept my car for 2-3 days so they could replace the seals and clean the clutch. A week later it started slipping and shuttering again. They again will not help me. They will blame you, they will say you drive the car incorrectly.

I have always driven Hondas and Toyotas, this is my first Ford purchase and I absolutely love the car. I did a lot of research, test drove many similar priced vehicles and I loved my Focus the moment I test drove it. The car has great visibility, engine is very quiet. The transmission is a little slow to react at times, but that could be because I am used to driving a clutch. The engineers at Ford really put a lot of time into many of some of the little details a few examples, you can roll the windows up after the car has turned off, and the radio stays on until you open the door. I am overall very pleased with both my car and the buying experience. Highly recommend this car.
