This Year's Model Updates:

The Standard trim level is replaced by the Work trim level. XLT and Lariat models get standard four-wheel antilock brakes, and the XLT gets standard air conditioning. All SuperCab models get a fourth door and horsepower is improved for engines across the board. Option content is shuffled and simplified as Ford reduces the number of optional features.

Pros:
  • Near perfect interior design and materials. Four doors on the SuperCab. Improved engine output. Excellent off-road capability.
Cons:

  • bad truck - 1999 Ford F-150

I own a 1999 f150 and I hate it. I bought a toyota tundra a few weeks ago and Ill never buy another ford. But my 99 ford broke everywhere week the back window leaked and tons of rust on it. I got terrible gas mileage I was lucky to get 8 mpg it was bad. Id fix 1 thing then another thing would break. It had 128,000 miles on it. Ill never buy another ford I put 3 front ends on it I hated it. I just came to the point that I got tired of fixing it so like I said I went out and bought a toyota tundra and I love it.

My truck generates the standard Ford problems annually. The hem seam on all four doors developed rust (which Ford refused to fix as the rust did not perforate the metal), phantom windshield wipers (unfixed), coil pack failure (1) and air conditioner refrigerant leaks requiring annual recharge and also the famous Ford door crack above the intersection of the front and rear door on both sides. The irritation is that these problems are all reported but Ford refused to address the problems until (reportedly and time will tell) the 2004 redesign. How does one say "Cash Cow".

After reading the Consumer Reports 1999 ratings on New Cars I decided on the F150 XLT 4.6L engine 2WD Pickup. What a mistake. In the last 15 months I have had the vehicle in the shop for service 12 times. Twice for head gaskets, four times for a stalling problem when it is damp out, once for a starter cable that went bad, twice for brakes, once for door locks not working and other minor items. I talked to the service manager today and my salesman. I cant afford this truck anymore. Luckily I have a extended service contract but the items not covered have cost over $2,000. This is not a reliable product.
