  • REAL truck wanted - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

An OK mom-mobile; kids in a true back seat with room for an antique chest in the toy-sized bed. 4.0 L engine: disappointing 16-17 mpg even with the 5-speed manual tranny, especially considering my 1991 5-spd Explorer DID get 20mpg. Still annoying: Fords windshield washer first wipes dry glass, THEN squirts fluid. New annoyance: Fords making AC cycle in all positions except heat-to-floor; no "fresh air to face."

  • Love My Sport Trac - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Bought a Ranger two years before the ST and couldnt use it for anything. The Sport Trac is great for hauling around my boat and snowmobile trailers. The four doors and easy in and out of the cab is excellent. The bed is very useful and more useful with a factory bed extender. The ST is great in the snow without the factory Goodyear tires.

  • Versatile, fun to drive vehicle ! - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

The SportTrac is a pleasure to drive and feels comfortable on the freeway, on city streets or off-road. It is versatile enough to perform like an SUV, a small pickup or a car with a huge trunk space (with the optional tonneau cover). It has a smooth ride and a roomy interior that can comfortably accomodate a tall driver. It has enough engine power to accelerate briskly on the freeway and to tow a small boat or trailer. It is easy to climb into and has a functional interior design. The exterior look is distinct and eye-catching.

  • Good things come in small packages - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I liked the sporty look compared to the F-150, which was another choice before purchase. I primarily use it as a car/suv, but I like the small bed with hard cover as an oversize trunk. I can take the top off for those Home Depot runs.

  • Best of Both Worlds - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

What can I say. This has to be one of the best rides Ford has put out in a long time.It rides like a plush car, NO body roll or lean, has power and able to haul a load around. Not as big as a full size, but we didnt want a big truck, and this truck fit the bill to a tee. Great support where you need it, especially for your back, great leg room, even for tall folks. Hope to have this truck for a long time!!

  • Accident waiting to happen - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I have had multiple problems with my Sport Trac. The fuel pump went out on me at 3,000 miles and it almost caused a large accident. Since the dealership replaced the fuel pump it has stalled on my 5 other times but the dealership wont take the time to diagnose the problem. I asked them if a technician could drive the vehicle for a week so they could properly diagnose it. They also had to replace my steering pump, replace an interior light, adjust my hood so it would latch properly and add a missing label.

  • Its all truck - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I bought it because my brother had previously owned it and after he traded it for a car he desperately wanted it back. It was lady driven between his and my ownership and she didnt want to part with it either. I bought it with 158000 kms and I use it like a real truck same as both previously did. It has hauled quads, loads of frozen meat, sand, and now I haul my 1300 lb lawn mower in the truck bed. Its got lots of power and its fun to drive. I also love the way it looks. Ive been getting between 23 - 28 mpg on the average week of work and play.

  • Cost of ownership - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Several items were covered under warentee, but had to replace the front brake pads and rotors TWICE by 65,000 miles - I do not drive it hard - all highway miles. Radiator hose was sliced by a bracket in the engine. Oil cap mounting shattered at the first oil change. The hinges on the storage behind one of the rear seats snapped - again no excessive use. Love the concept but dissapointed at the experience.

  • Fits that "niche" I am in - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

The Sport Trac fits my needs perfectly. With the cargo cage extender, it has plenty of bed space when I need it. The fold-down rear seats give me even more room to work with. But its also a comfortable ride to work, which is my main use of the vehicle. The handling is okay, and Im pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage, which is almost as good as the Ford Ranger I traded in for the Sport Trac, and the Sport Tracs smooth but powerful acceleration when I need it is tremendous.

  • Works fine - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I have had my sport trac since 2002 and now it has 158,000.00 miles on it. I have had to do some routine maintainace but it still runs really well and I am having a hard time replacing because it is in such good shape. I will get at least 200,000 miles out of this truck but I also take care of it and not try to dog it out. I would say to anyone if you want your car to last, you need to look at your manuel that came with your truck and do the maintainance. You will end up saving thousands on repairs. I know because this is not the first Ford that I have got this many miles out of.
