  • A Long Wait....A Quick Disappointment - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

This brand new truck was purchased as a college graduation present to myself. Nine months later, I had to be given a brand new engine. My dealership was excellent through all of my problems. But, I felt Ford should have shown me some type of support (even just a letter of apology). A year and a half and 2 recalls later, I am very disappointed not only in the quality of this vehicle but in the lack of customer service that Ford has shown me. Without the tonneau cover, the back is too light and slides in rain and snow.I am young, and will own several more cars in the future. However, none of them will be a Ford.

I bought the truck for the functionality - to transport my family and cargo at the same time. I chose it over the Dakota because it drove like a car - which it is. This vehicle is not as durable as a truck and should not be treated as such. But for a suburbanite, I like it a lot. It has things break on it a lot and I am thankful for the warranty. Too bad the dealership is so unsupportive. I see it as a great alternative to a wagon but not to a pick up truck. Treat it gently and it will perform well. Great speed but poor mileage (18 - 20 mpg).

  • Have you replaced the Ford brakes lately - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Paint is crap and from what I am told on both the black and dark blue. The brake pads are inadequate. The customer service Ford provides is substandard at best.

I purchased this vehicle because I am going to be having a child soon and needed something with more room. I chose the Sport Trac because of its unique ability to carry passengers and still haul items in the pickup bed. I also chose this vehicle because of the decent reviews it has gotten from most reviewers. Also I love the color (Island Blue)! So far I have 1450 miles on my Sport Trac.

I love the vehicle...its so versitile and well equipped!!! Its great, I can take the family anywhere comfortable and yet still haul stuff. I did have a problem with it when it was only 1 year old. It did not want to start, it took the dealership almost a month to figure out the problem-the idle air control valve. Other than that, Ive had no problems with it and love it!

  • so far so good - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

so far i enjoy the sport trac 4x4. It has been very reliable. i am 64" tall and so far the interior and leg room works well. Poor gas mileage (16mpg)(i have the 4.10 rearend). the goodyear at/s tires wear poorly. For the money it seems a bit cheesy. Resale value is poor for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The bed is awefully small and nearly worthless.

Ive had this truck almost 2 years and still like it a lot. I like the versatility of having a smaller truck that I can haul stuff around in while not having to drive a big monster of a vehicle.

  • Great little truck - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Bought new with less than 100 miles after my 94 ranger was totalled by a kid running a light. This truck is a beast in the snow. Winter 06 brought 2 major blizzards here with over 2ft of snow each time within 2 weeks. Had to blast through drifts over 4 ft to get to work. No problem at all. That is even with the crap stock goodyear RT/S tires. Tires started "thumping at 10k. Had to replace pads and rotors at 30k. Repair shop said a caliper was frozen on the right front and chewed throught the rotor. Replaced rotors, pads and calipers over $700. Now the breaks constantly squeak. Besides that have not had any mechanical issues what so ever "knock on wood"

  • A Good SUV/Truck - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

This has been one of the most comfortable vehicles Ive ever owned. It seems to fit like a glove. He has performed flawlessly and has never had to return to the dealer for anything. It doesnt get quite the mileage I was hoping for, but it is very reliable and stable on the road. Most everyone Ive met has liked it and they comment on how smoothly it rides.
