Ive owned it for 10 months, and it has only 35K miles and already is is the shop getting the transmission replaced. Warranty is only 3yr/36K, even on drivetrain. The ride is very rough, but what you would expect from a short wheel based truck. Must wear seat belt or the car beeps at you every couple of minuts, very annoying.

  • Dependable Small SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I have over 140K mile bought the vehicle with only 6K. Bumpy rode but not a bad vehicle at all. Just out grown. Bought the vehicle when it was only my son and I now Im married with additional 2 kids. Need more room now. ***Not a family car*** But dependable and reliable. Just the normal maintenance needed so far.

  • Been a good one so far - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I recently bought my Explorer and so far it has been a very enjoyable experience. The vehicle is very dependable and fun to drive. I like the look of the vehicle and the interior design. My only complaint is the fuel economy. I average around 18.5 to 19 mpg. I would have liked to seen a little better gas mileage. Overall I would recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Fun to drive but too many problems. Timing chain rattle at 43K, steering wheel vibration in parking maneuvers, faulty rear window wiper, and premature rust of rear bumper and side bars. Mechanical problems are covered under certified vehicle and another extended warranty, but Im on my own with exterior surface rusting on a 3 year old vehicle.

  • Hard Ride - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

While I liked the overall appearance (interior and exterior) and didnt mind the gas mileage (21 on the highway), this is the roughest riding vehicle Ive ever owned. For that reason I am trading it in and buying something smoother on the roads. Any bump with the Explorer Sport and you get jolted pretty good.

  • Very happy! - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

This Explorer Sport is perfect. I drove a Geo Metro for 6 1/2 years before upgrading to a SUV. The price was right and fits my lifestyle to a tee. It has enough space for moving anything. Its just me and my wife, so the back seat isnt a concern. Our friends tell us its comfortable back there. The dealership had exactly what my wife and I wanted, including a bush guard already installed. Whomever leased this truck before us, a big thank you to you for keeping it is such great shape.

  • Love my Explorer Sport - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I puchased my 2001 Explorer Sport 4x4 in March, 2003 and I love it. A couple of minor fixes after the purchase - all covered by warranty, but otherwise a great vehicle. Ive driven it from CT to NC and back twice now, and both times, the ride was comfortable. Perfect for a single mid-20s guy with no kids!

  • Great little automatic 4x4 SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Bought in 2003 w/60000 miles on it. Now has 120,000 and still runs like new with only regular maintenance. We have family that live in the Sierras at the end of a dirt and gravel road. This little 4x4 always makes it up there no problem with all-season tires; mud, snow, whatever. I added a class 3 bolt-on 4 point hitch receiver and it tows a 3500lb boat/trailer no problem. Just had dings removed and repainted same dark teal metallic and it looks like MONEY!

I love this vechicle. Ford does it again with inpressing me. I am not too happy with the Fuel Economy; However, everyone tells me it is still good for an SUV.

  • Fabulously Reliable - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

I bought my 2WD EX Sport 5 years ago with 70K miles. It now has 127,000. It has been a fabulously reliable vehicle-- but I do a lot of preventative maintenance on my vehicles. There are a few rattles and it rides a bit rough on bumpy roads. Only seats 4. The fabric seats look brand new. Excellent quality. Much lighter than a 4 door 4WD Explorer and is quite peppy. The silver painted finish on the console chips easily. I Average 18 MPG. 22 on the FWY. Idles a bit rough, but runs smoothly. Actually does pretty well in the snow for a 2 WD vehicle.
