  • Fabulously Reliable - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I bought my 2WD EX Sport 5 years ago with 70K miles. It now has 127,000. It has been a fabulously reliable vehicle-- but I do a lot of preventative maintenance on my vehicles. There are a few rattles and it rides a bit rough on bumpy roads. Only seats 4. The fabric seats look brand new. Excellent quality. Much lighter than a 4 door 4WD Explorer and is quite peppy. The silver painted finish on the console chips easily. I Average 18 MPG. 22 on the FWY. Idles a bit rough, but runs smoothly. Actually does pretty well in the snow for a 2 WD vehicle.

  • Damn Ball Joints - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Overall its been good, Only issues are squeaky brakes whenever I brake between the speeds of 35mph to 50mph since day one Took the truck in 3 times regarding this...never could find anything they replaced the brake pads only once. EGR sensor failed. And 2 replaced ball joints in 2 years. I dont off-road either. But its been dependable.

Great vehicle for a teenager. Not a great vehicle for a young couple.

  • Great SUV with easy modifications - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

My 3rd Explorer Sport. Lowered by 1.5" - front adjustable, rear blocks, Bilstein shocks and 275/60-17 tires improve handling 100%. 2.5" Flowmaster exhaust, K&N air filter and cool air intake and performance chip (ECU) increases HP to 250+ with 21-22 miles per gallon highway. These changes made the Explorer Sport an exceptional truck in handling and driveability, ride comfort and performance (faster than the V-8 Explorer). Ive driven it to Florida and back to New York with 3 passengers and loaded, including a roof carrier. Id much rather drive the Sport than my V-8 Crown Victoria on long trips now. Too bad, they stopped making it. Great truck.

  • Rides Like an SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I had read some previous reviews on the site, and I feel they are somewhat inacurate. This car is not a Grand Cherokee or an Expedition, as reflected by its selling price. This is a 2 door SUV with a strong engine, extremely capable transmission, and the ride of a SUV. I dont think Ford ever designed this car to ride like a sedan. Having had mine for seven months now, I am very pleased with its performance.

  • Reliable Transportation - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

I bought my 01 Sport after my 99 Sport was totalled 2 years ago with around 118,000 miles on it. Ive never had to anything other than routine oil changes, etc and Ive put about 20,000 miles on it. Im not easy on cars either. The only issues Ive had with it is that it is hard to start (it doesnt crank immediately) and the disc changer stopped working. Unfortunately, someone rear-ended me and totalled this one 2 weeks ago. As long as only having 2 doors (NOT fun for travelling or people with children) and bad gas mileage (15-16 mpg city) dont bother you, this is a great SUV. I would recommend an Explorer in a heartbeat.

  • Awsome Car - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Honestly, I am a pretty crazy driver. Being a crazy driver, I would need a reliable vehicle that can handle hard turns, speed, fast breaking, and things like that. My 2001 Ford Explorer Sport has done these things and a whole lot more. Thats why I would strongly recomend this vehicle to anyone.

  • Decent little ride - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Ive had my truck for about a year and so far so good. My only complaints are the harsh ride over anything but smooth highway. It definately rides like a truck. The short wheelbase makes it bounce all over the lane when you hit a bump. Overall, I like my truck. It was a great deal. 4x4 works good. I would recommend it to anyone that is single or does not plan to carry a lot of passengers. Good cargo room for its size. Has not given me any problems either.

Bought it used from a dealer who used it in the winter. Great vehicle for New England snow storms. Built well, low maintenance costs. MPG is not great, it has a smaller tank so it sometimes seems worse than it is. Towed approx. 1500 lbs. easily, sometimes felt like I wasnt towing anything. Rides real rough, had to replace rear shocks at 22,000 and front at about 45,000. Overall not a bad car.
