Love My Explorer - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Maxamillion51 - April 2 - 10:00 amI went from a fll size 4x4 GMC Truck to the Explorer Sport. I thought that I would not be happy with a smaller truck but I love my Explorer. The only thing that I wish is that ford would give it a bit more ground clearance and Traction control on the 4x2 model.

Great truck - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Red - January 25 - 4:50 pmI have owned a Tahoe, a Durango and this Explorer Sport. If you take away the size difference in each, this is the best one I have owned. I drove it cross-country and it was a great ride. I have taken it in the mountains, on bad streets with lots of pot holes and nice urban neighborhoods and it has been perfect in all places. This is a great SUV! I am very happy!

2001 Ford Explorer /Black - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By slimdashady1 - January 20 - 10:00 amWhen I bought it it seemed pretty good,but then I started to have some problems with it.First there is some kind of vibration that comes from the trans when I am at a stop.This doesnt always happen but it is very annoying when it does.Then twice when I had to come to a sudden stop the passenger seat came flying forward.It was in a locked position both times.Then the paint started to fade all over the truck.Last thing is now the brakes squeek when I brake at 45mph or more.The dealer could "not find anything wrong with my complaints".Besides the really nice looks of this truck,and the roomy interior I am not happy.

Happy - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Marc Arch - January 12 - 2:00 amI really enjoy driving the Explorer Sport. To me the Explorer Sport is a comfortable, quick, and agile truck. After 10 years of driving various trucks, and after renting numerous mini-utes, I purchased the right vehicle. Trucklike yes, but solid feeling with a quick smooth engine/tranny combo. Yes, maybe a little harsh through the front end on bumps, and gas mileage could be better. I find the steering accurate, body lean is far less than most other trucks and utes. (Less jiggly than the V6 Escape I had for 5 Days)

Beginner SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Just to give you insight as to who I am, I am a 23 year old engineering student studing mechanical engineering I am looking to buy a bmw 330i, 2006 now. Speaking for SUVs I want to say that Ford has built a great truck in the Explorer Sport. This is because first,the reliablility is exceptional. If you maintaine regular fluid changes, the sport will run like the first day you owned it. Second, if you do have to maintain something large, the repairs are relatively inexpensive compared to European counterparts, (Japanese SUVs may be more expensive to repair too). Thirdly, The torgue that the sport has is plenty fun

Almost lost my life - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By i0love17 - November 12 - 2:00 amI got my explorer in the summer and it was great and really no problems. Well i was totally wrong. Everytime i hit a pothole or a little crack in the road i felt my tires slid from underneath me and it was so scary. The winter wasnt to bad. But in august of this year i was on my way to a bears game and it was dry and i hit a pothole and slid off the road rolled three times and plus 7 months pregnant. So i wasnt driving like a maniac. It felt the tires losing grip and it was the worst thing in the world and spent 9 days in the hospital and thank god my baby was ok but it was awful. I loved my truck but hate it, especially for that reason.

Lemon or new model year glitches? - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By TVSP - July 20 - 10:00 amIn the first six months of owning my Explorer Sport the following has been replaced for defects: the electronic control module (the brain), the fuel pump, the back window shield wiper, the outer door molding, the oxygen sensor for emissions, the interior "cruise control lights". This is my second Explorer Sport. My first one (a 1998 model) was the polar oppposite of this one...never a problem and it saved my life in a rollover crash at 70mph. While the reliability on my existing Explorer is questionable, the safety systems are impeccable. At least I have the peace of mind in knowing that this vehicle can and will save my life. And lets face it, that is worth a lot!

Kickin - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Don Durfey - April 25 - 1:56 pmI love my new SUV. I purchased a 2001 Explorer Sport used with 20,000 miles on it off of a lease. It is a major improvement from my Jetta. Its got tons of power, plenty of room, and still small enough I can park it anywhere I could park my Jetta. Its got plenty of cargo space, very easy to work on, and excellent new body lines. Ive had it offroad a few times and never had a problem. I never thought Id own a FORD, but now I realized that Ive been missing out.

Ford - Quality is Job One???? - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By TreManFoo - April 19 - 10:00 amAbosolutely pitiful build quality. The dashboard rattles and squeeks incessantly from no less than three different areas. And the center console makes a loud knocking noise while driving, the cheap plastic began cracking after less than two months on the road. Lets see...the overhead console dangles from the roof because only 2 of the four screws were actually installed at the factory; and my favorite - the doors are made out of recycled beer cans, I believe. When you close the doors you get a crashing metal-on-metal sound, not the nice solid "whoomp" that other new vehicles (that cost far less, btw) exhibit. The ride is terrible...wear your kidney belt.
