nice suv - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By bassraider - November 5 - 12:16 amBought this car when my 97 S-10 was t-boned in an accident. It has been nothing but reliable and cheap to own. I have taken it on many long distance trips and it has been reasonably comfortable. The only gripes I have are the combo purse/cheap plastic center console arm rest that broke in the first month of owning it, and the rear wiper which never worked reliably (but who needs one anyways). As for the complaints about the rough ride, it is a truck and it has a VERY short wheelbase which combined together make for a very bumpy ride, needless to say if you dont want a bumpy ride get the four door version and say hi to the rest of the soccer moms for me.

Good value for SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By benny981 - December 8 - 10:00 amLooked at other smaller SUV like the Pathfinder and 4Runner. Based on performance/price. The smaller Explorer is a much better value if this is a used as a second car and you already have a Minivan or something else that will seat seven. As far as reliability, you may use the money you saved on the purchase to but an extended warranty (just in case). The Pathfinder with similar options is low-mid 30s., The 4Runner is a little lower, but at 183 HP and lower tourque, its a no-brainer. Im happy with my choice and I saved at least 7-8K on the purchase price.

first Ford in family - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Laurry - July 13 - 11:36 amThis is first Ford in family, so far so good. I am usually a GM person but have had Japanese also. The price was right on this so thought I would give it a try. Like another person that gave review here. people this is a SUV not a car; the ride is more choppy and stiffer than a car . AS IT SHOULD BE.

So far so good. - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By MandaLou - February 21 - 4:03 pmI bought my Explorer about a year and half ago. I am pleased with it. Its a fun little gadget to drive, but not too roomy if you want to haul around friends. Body style is great and the handling is good as well. The fuel economy could improve, but that is with all SUVs. Good car if you are young and on the go!

hoping for the best - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By nappy - October 21 - 2:00 amI bought my explorer sport used about a month ago. Its beautiful, it has every option available, i love the sun roof leather, and the strong motor. ive out almost 1500 miles on it in that time cuz i cant stop driving it ill drive it just to kill time. But i am a little nervouse have noticed a few minor prob.s one it hesitates on some shifts, and jerks into others not all the time but sometimes. And once it did not want to start in the morning, but it was cold so who knows.

Overall Pleased - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By 4x4Sport - September 13 - 2:00 amFor the most part, I have been very pleased with my Sport. It is very nice looking inside and out. GREAT transmission/engine combination. Acceptable fuel economy (avg. ~17mpg in combo driving). Handles great for a SUV, but rides pretty bad - mostly due to the short wheelbase I am sure. Fairly capable offroad. I have three main complaints: too many rattles, too much body flex, and terrible resale value.

My 2001 explorer sport - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By stan - August 19 - 10:00 amExcellent overall vehicle i purchased mine used with about 20k miles Sept 2002 and i have had it serviced regularly by the Ford dealership if you do not take care of your vehicle it will not take of you i have just went over 100k miles other than the cruise control recall (i had to go without it for two days), the battery dying about 6yrs ago, and having to recently replace the original tires, i have had no problems with it at all, my paint job needs a touch-up and two of the original three overhead handles are missing in the interior but has always been dependable i always made it to work and back even in some pretty bad storms that some 18 wheelers could not make, its a truck and a good one

Nice SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Greg - June 11 - 9:23 pmI bought my EXP sport used and I have really enjoyed the ride. I found the vehicle to be just the right size for me, as I am generally the only one in the vehicle.

A few problems, overall satisfied - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Hound - May 21 - 10:00 amLike the cool looking 2001 body (hate the 2002) Fun to drive, but seat back is uncomfortable on long rides, needs to be more ergonomic (SP?). One year into ownership, it overheated on very short trips. Mechanic said he is seeing a lot of bad thermostats on the v6s. At 32,000 miles now, noticed a very slight delay in upshifting and a small loss of power. Dealer said everything OK. (Will be, Im sure until warrenty runs out). Large cargo area ideal to have have a lunchtime quickie with girlfriend at work. Hey, you have to think of these things.

Not exactly what I thought - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By natumbu - April 3 - 2:00 amMy Ford Explorer sport is a beauty to look at, fun to drive and I love my moonroof the most. But, with this being my first SUV purchase, I expected a more comfortable suspension. The only issue I have with my Explorer is the suspension on bumpy roads or expecially potholes. I think I would have research the other models more, to see if they provided a more comforatable suspension, but I just didnt want that big four-door version.
