  • Better values out there. - 2016 Ford Explorer

I really wanted this truck. Test drove a few and loved it. Great ride, very roomy, and aggressive looks! Sparsely equipped until youve up into the sport and platinum packages. Ultimately bought a Chevy Traverse. Got heated seats, Sunroof, and remote start for less than the Explorer XLT would cost.

  • Poor Quality Ruins An Otherwise Good Product - 2016 Ford Explorer

I wanted to be among the first in my neighborhood to get the new 2016 Explorer and so I did. Now I will be among the first not to get another one as my lease is up soon. Here are the problems Ive had which are driving my decision:check engine light goes on at 300 miles, take to dealership, they say its fixed, then it goes back on again. Take it back to dealership, they get it to turn off, then it goes back on again. Now it has remained off. Side auto retract mirrors are a great idea, unfortunately they now creak like haunted house stairs when they retract. Power windows chatter when you press the down button. Dashboard periodically whistles and its not the a/c, its something else. Out of the clear blue, when you lock the door, the drivers seat moves to a fully reclined and fully lifted position, the mirrors move to a weird setting. Lastly, the seats suck. Very uncomfortable and cheap-feeling leather which is showing a lot of wear after only 25,000 miles. It feels like you are sitting on instead of in the seats. Very poor thigh support and I am only about 6 feet tall.

  • FAULTY THROTTLE BODY - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

I got my 2016 Ford Explorer in mid August of last year. Today (Saturday) as I was driving home from errands on a busy street, the Explorer started to shimmy, engine light came on and I was basically without power. I "limped" home, called a tow truck and had it brought in to the dealership. It has 8,200 miles on it and I havent had it for a year yet and the thing crapped out on me!! Thank God this didnt happen to me as I was driving on a busy Los Angeles Freeway like I do during the week!!! I could have been seriously injured or killed due to the vehicle dying on me and someone slamming in to me. The service guy at the dealership told me that hes had a boatload of 2016 Explorers come in with the same problem and that a recall should be coming soon. That tells me right there that Ford is liable. I mean really Ford, youve known about this throttle body problem for a while now. Someone is going to be killed or seriously hurt because of this defect. Is that what youre waiting for?!

  • Turbo went out, causing smell of fire & smoke - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

I leased my 2016 Platinum in Oct 2015. March driving home on my commute, on a hwy I received an error that my off road traction had been turned off, didnt know that it was on, and looking at dial it wasnt on. Just moments after that error came up I began to smell something burning. I thought it was from outside in the air so wasnt too bothered. As I went another couple miles, now on city streets the smell got stronger and by the time I got home a few more streets away I was very worried. I got out and my car was smoking but not on fire. I had it towed to the dealership for service. For the first couple days they couldnt figure it out and had a Ford Engineer come out and investigate. They determined that the turbo had gone out, not sure if that was the real problem or just their way around something more severe. Problem fixed. Just a couple weeks ago my cross traffic and blind spot fault came up, and this was during Thanksgiving, so waited until after the holidays to call for service. During that time went in for work and came out at 5:30pm to find my vehicles side mirrors folded in, so got in my car and they wouldnt open up, I tried to open up my windows to manually push the driver side mirror out, and the window wouldnt open for both driver and passenger. It is so dark during this season, but still drove home. I do not recommend driving at all with no side mirrors for any amount of distance. This 40 miles home in the dark on a freeway was beyond stressful. As I exit the freeway, another fault comes up - tire pressure fault. I take it in the next morning without an appt. I had to rent a car for 2 days since they wouldnt cover it. They reset the codes and all is fine. I pick up and 3 hours later all the same errors and window and mirrors go back to acting up. I drop it off at service Saturday morning and no one is there. I talk to the Sales Manager and let him know what is going on and tell him I will not pay for a rental, and that Ford will be picking up the bill. He did not hesitate as I have 3 kids in the car. It is now Tuesday, and I havent heard from service manager regarding my car being there. Not sure what is going on, but this really worries me that it is so easy for them to just reset the codes and not actually fix the problem. Overall I love everything about this vehicle, and hope that this does not continue after I purchase it.....extended warranty is in my future.

  • I love my new Ford Explorer! - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

I bought a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum trim SUV this past June and LOVE IT! There isnt a single option that this car doesnt have in it. The vehicle handles very well and is extremely comfortable to drive. My two daughters love it too (ages 8 & 10). They especially love having a console between their two captains chairs. The 3rd row seating is descent in size and comfort. The interior is luxurious and appealing. In terms of controls, everything I need is right at my finger tips. My previous SUV was a 2007 Mercedes GL450 and it was no where near as comfortable and did not have all of the extra features I have now in my new Ford. My Mercedes was also extremely expensive to maintain and repair. One impressive new feature I have now on my Ford is the park assist. Its amazing to watch the car literally park itself in either a parallel parking spot or back itself into a perpendicular spot with minimal effort on my part. I also love the key-less entry feature and push button ignition start. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a new luxury style SUV.

  • Performs as Good as It Looks - 2016 Ford Explorer

The Sport is a perfect SUV for performance and comfort. The front and rear cameras are a plus and love how they get washed when you use the washer fluid, the interior is roomy and comfortable (front seats could use some work, but I got used to them). I use it to tow and the motor has plenty of power. Trans is smooth. The ride is quiet and smooth. The fuel mileage is great in my opinion for a 5,000 pound 364hp 3-row SUG (I get 25 highway, 17 city, Overall 19 combined based on my commute and driving conditions).

  • Great SUV! - 2016 Ford Explorer

I cant say enough about how impressed I am with this vehicle. Drives and rides as good or better than anything else out there. Acceleration is good and handling is superb. I am more than satisfied with this vehicle.

  • Dont Explore this Explorer! Throttle Body Fail! - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

My wife, 6 year old daughter, and dog almost stranded because of throttle body failure at just over 8,000 miles with no warning. This thing is not safe nor reliable and will most certainly cause death or injury, and Ford already knows its an issue but will not inform or warn you ahead of time. My wife was driving when the vehicle just shut down to an idle on the highway. Luckily it was early and traffic was minimal. The part is on backorder with no estimated time limit for repair. If you plan on traveling or exploring the great outdoors away from home, think again before purchasing the Ford Explorer. It is totally unacceptable for a brand new vehicle to be this unreliable and unpredictable to just shut down anywhere at any time without any warning. Very disappointed in choosing this vehicle I thought would be safe and reliable for my family. Now, even after it gets repaired, I cannot trust or take another chance with it and will be trading it in as soon as I can, even if it means going upside down.

  • Daughters 2016 vrs my 2013 - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

We have a 2013 Explorer and LOVE IT. One of the best vehicles I have owned (hope it stays that way). This is our 3rd one. I have always found Ford seats to be the most comfortable in the whole industry. I have a bad back and so does my daughter. Congenital defect. We need perfectly flat back rest in any seats. My 2013 is so comfortable we both sit in to when our backs bother us, it is like therapy they are so good. My daughter bought a 2016 Explorer, same as mine. They did some "face lift" to it but basically the same vehicle. She and her husband love it in every way, except they RUINED The SEATS. They are so bad she cannot hardly drive the car. I cannot stand them. They have bulge in the back rest that will not go away. My power lumbar completely retracts and the seat back is flat. Hers will not do that. When the lumbar is retracted there is still a bulge. The dealer was going to offer to take the power lumbar out, but when they checked closer the seat itself was made different then mine and has a built in bulge to the backrest, the reason when you deflate or retract the lumbar it is still there punching you in the back. She has had to try and design a wedge pillow to try and get rid of this. My other daughters Fusion has power lumbar and it also fully retracts and it very comfortable. It also is a 2013. Mine and hers (2013 and 2016) are great in every other way. If the seat bulge is good for you, they are great SUVs. For the rest of us, Ford please fix the seats to what they were and have been for years, the best.

  • Getting parts a mystery - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

Bought 2016 Explorer LTD in August. Enjoyed car ran fine including a trip to Florida. Middle of March with 13,000 miles car went into "limp home mode" which caused loss of speed, power and safety. I went from 55mph on the expressway to 8mph with giant trucks on my tail. Needed a new Electronic Throttle Body, none available anywhere in the country. Its been TWO weeks so far without any fix in site. Ford has not stepped on this one, very poor customer relations. Its a nice car, lots of cool gizmos and doodads, but this problem has soured me on Ford and this car. Be wary
