  • Looks Matter + Reliability - 2016 Ford Explorer

I am a long time owner of Hondas and Toyotas, but with the positive changes of reliability ratings overall, it finally made sense to look again. Have to admit we purchased in part because of exterior and interior looks. Honda Pilots now look like magnified CRVs. I could not tell inside the Pilot if I was in a $30K family van or in a $45K SUV. Highlanders now have those bulging red rear lights and that pleasant open-mouth whale shark grill. The Explorer just looks better. Looks and reliability count for something :)

  • Great vehicle, but very pricey. - 2016 Ford Explorer

This is an excellent SUV, and my purchase choice after detailed review of the competitors. Ford is excellent to deal with and the have produced a quality product with this vehicle. Having realistic expectations of how an SUV will be after the initial purchase honeymoon has worn off is important, and you have to understand that you will not get the mileage (MPG) nor the ride comfort of a regular car (sedan). It is after all an SUV. The fuel economy is fair but I did not expect it to sip fuel either. The controls / instrumentation are complicated for those not accustomed to technical navigation through screens of available data, but its also intuitive enough for the average user to get up and running fairly quickly. The only negative is the price (but I knew this going in). $40K + for the decently equipped mid-size SUV is a lot of money and the price rockets as soon as you get into additional options.

  • Throttle Body Issue - 2016 Ford Explorer

I was driving through a bad neighborhood, completely intending to hit the expressway when the system chimes and a wrench appears then the engine light appears. Immediately I lose the ability to accelerate. Scared to stop I literally coast/idle to a safe area for the FORD roadside assistance to come get me. The driver said he already picked up 6 Ford Explorers in the last few weeks with the same issue. WTF! I only have 8200 miles on it. Waiting to hear back now.

  • Honest Two Month Review - 2016 Ford Explorer

We have had our 2016 Sport for two months now. It replaced a five year old Chrysler minivan. Before buying the Ford, we compared it to the 2016 Honda Pilot, 2015 GMC Acadia, and 2015 Toyota Highlander. All vehicles were the top trim models. We liked the Ford best overall. So far the only issue has been a bad tire pressure sensor, which was at bad at purchase and was replaced the following week. As far as the seats others have been complaining about: I am 511, 220, and have a 36" waist. My wife is 56, 170, and is a size 16. Once we adjusted the seats, the comfort level is fine. We have the heated/cooled leather seats. The vehicle is quiet, punchy, handles well, and has plenty of interior room for three teens and a child. The storage room behind the third row seat is decent, more than any of the vehicles we tested, but not as much as a minivan. This is one of the only downsides and we know it switching from a minivan to a suv. My only other issues would be the hood (seems bigger than it needs to be) and the touchscreen. I like buttons and switches, not touch screens and different menus to change settings. Overall a good vehicle so far.

  • I love my new Ford Explorer! - 2016 Ford Explorer

I bought a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum trim SUV this past June and LOVE IT! There isnt a single option that this car doesnt have in it. The vehicle handles very well and is extremely comfortable to drive. My two daughters love it too (ages 8 & 10). They especially love having a console between their two captains chairs. The 3rd row seating is descent in size and comfort. The interior is luxurious and appealing. In terms of controls, everything I need is right at my finger tips. My previous SUV was a 2007 Mercedes GL450 and it was no where near as comfortable and did not have all of the extra features I have now in my new Ford. My Mercedes was also extremely expensive to maintain and repair. One impressive new feature I have now on my Ford is the park assist. Its amazing to watch the car literally park itself in either a parallel parking spot or back itself into a perpendicular spot with minimal effort on my part. I also love the key-less entry feature and push button ignition start. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a new luxury style SUV.

  • Performs as Good as It Looks - 2016 Ford Explorer

The Sport is a perfect SUV for performance and comfort. The front and rear cameras are a plus and love how they get washed when you use the washer fluid, the interior is roomy and comfortable (front seats could use some work, but I got used to them). I use it to tow and the motor has plenty of power. Trans is smooth. The ride is quiet and smooth. The fuel mileage is great in my opinion for a 5,000 pound 364hp 3-row SUG (I get 25 highway, 17 city, Overall 19 combined based on my commute and driving conditions).

  • Great SUV! - 2016 Ford Explorer

I cant say enough about how impressed I am with this vehicle. Drives and rides as good or better than anything else out there. Acceleration is good and handling is superb. I am more than satisfied with this vehicle.

  • 3rd time could be a charm - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

This is my third explorer. This car is so comfortable and smooth its incredible. I recently rented a Lincoln MKz and it was so quiet and smooth, I rate this Explorer about the same about of smooth quiet. The only issue I have is the push off. The immediate exceleration is awful, once you ramp up the car moves and you have to watch yourself. Its so smooth I forget how fast Im actually moving. Seats are comfy, the whole family loves them. The entertainment right at your finger tips is a joy. Being able to listen to text messages and voice mail was an added plus. I will not text or read text or even talk on the phone and drive. This makes this a bit safer and easier to deal with.
