  • Falling apart from day2 - 2003 Ford Explorer

4 weeks into this. Day2 engine stumbling and missing upon engine start. After two visits = computer reprogram (we had to insist). Day8 the pass-door low trim split-off at the front & dealer says door re-alignment is needed when the new panel comes in. Day20, dual mode AC only blows cold air on pass side/warm air on driver side. Quality & Ford seem to have gone separate ways. The dealer has been poor itself with service being apathetic at best (had to resort to lemon law just to get action). Our new SUV which seems to be falling apart faster than we can drive it, ensures we will never buy a Ford product again.

I really enjoy my 2003 Limited Explorer. It rides smooth but the inside noise level could be diminished. The 6 CD changer is wonderful. It looks good from the outside and the inside is very plush, with the leather interior. Fuel economy is good depending on your rate of travel. I especially love the moon-roof. Also, it doesnt have a locking gas cap. This is very important to me. That needs to be a definite upgrade with future models. I have been very pleased with everything other than the inside noise level.

I like the design and the included running boards on the sport option package. The 17" wheels look much better, along with the two-tone paint. I bought this mostly for the 3rd row - there was more legroom than I thought, but the floor raises where the spare is located under the truck, so your feet are always on a bump.

  • Much Better Than Anticipated - 2003 Ford Explorer

I never thought I would own a Ford until I saw the new explorer. Previous cars were a 98 Range Rover & a 98 Volvo V70. The Explorer ride compares favorably to the Rangie although it doesnt have the luxury interior features. Car looks great and has a very comfortable ride. My wife has an 03 Honda Pilot and I prefer driving the Explorer (hopefully it will compare favorably long term on reliability). I would recommend this car to friends.

Honda owner for 12 years. After researching and driving the new Explorer, I felt very comfortable putting my family in this vehicle.

  • Great Truck, Glad I bought it! - 2003 Ford Explorer

Great truck overall. I had a 95 Explorer, and it was time to replace it. GOing from the old pushrod 4.0 to the new 4.0 was an amazing difference..the old engine was too underpowered. The interior is well laid out, and the suspension gives a great ride with the independent rear. I didnt get the third row seat, so I have quite a bit more storage area in the back.

We like what Ford did with the Explorer the extra inches that was added to the overall vechicle, changed the whole vechicle. We have only taken one short trip in it from Riverside to San Fransico. The only problem that we could find is on wash board roads you can feel ever thing, other then that I would reccomed this vichicle to everone, its not to big to whwer its over powering and not to small to where every thing eles look so much bigger.

It is an overall great car, and ride, but the fuel economy is poor.

  • 3rd new ford, only way to go - 2003 Ford Explorer
    By -

I bought my wife a 2003 XLT with the third row seat because I was tired of hearing about how she didnt really like our mini-van. So far we have only put about 4,000 miles on it. But, we are hard on our cars and this one feels like all our other Fords. Built to take it. I like the ride and how it handles. I would have rather had the V-8 but the power gain didnt seem worth the mileage loss. The V-6 pulls hard enough. Im not a big fan of the 5 speed auto. It shifts a little too often and I almost always lock out the overdrive.
