  • Great Experience - 2003 Ford Explorer

I am very happy to have purchased this truck. I used to tell myself that Is never buy American, and would never buy a Ford. Well as soon as I saw and drove the 2003 Explorer I wanted it. It has a good amount of power, a lot of room and rides like a dream...much better then a 4runner.

  • get the 4.6l v-8 - 2003 Ford Explorer

the 4.0l v-6 with the 3.73 axle and tow pkg is ok, but in elevation it tends to down shift too frequently for my tastes. Fortunately, i was on vacation and usually dont drive in hilly terrain. Still, in hindsight, i would have bought the 4.6l v-8 for the little extra $ and little difference in gas mileage.

  • I just saw a Ford Explorer rollover! - 2003 Ford Explorer

SUVs are great cars and Fords a good choice. I like the tall driving stance and I like the styling. But rollover propensity and higher insurance costs are the price of driving a high gas consumption vehicle.

  • Just keeps getting better - 2003 Ford Explorer

I have had three Explorers and each one is better than the last. I can always depend on my SUV to get me where I need to go. I put 275,000 miles on my first one and 192,000 on the second one and I have 72,000 on this one and it still has its original tires! I recommend it to anyone who needs a reliable safe SUV.

This is the 4th Explorer that Ive owned in the last 10 years. Unfortunately, it has been the most problematic. Although a far cry from "lemon status," problems have been a nuisance, nonetheless. Ford has done a good job in this redesign when comparing the old school Explorers. Unfortunately, the resale value is almost insulting since so many have been sold. I probably would consider another Explorer when the next redesign occurs for the 2006 model year, but I am strongly looking at the Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner appears to have substantially better resale value and substance.

  • Dont make a mistake and buy one of these - 2003 Ford Explorer

Never again will buy a Ford after driving the one I bought. Hundereds of parts have been changed so far. I think I have the all time record for most warranty work done to a vehicle and still doesnt run correct. Throwen out of dealership where AI bought it and have to travel 400 km to get warranty work done.

  • Ready to Trade - 2003 Ford Explorer

I have two fords so I don carry the keyfob sfor both.I got frozen out of the vehcile twice last winter because there is no key cylinder on the driver side which is annoying. For the price of the vehicle ford can put a $10 cylinder in there not going to loose money. I have also had problems with the rear winshield. What really gets me the most is the 11 mpg when I tow withit and 20 without. It is a bad engine/tranny combo for towing anything on the heavier side of the tow range
