Ford's replacement for the aging Bronco is the all-new Expedition. Based on the 1997 F-150 platform, this full-size sport-utility vehicle is poised to do battle with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon.
- Great big truck that can seat up to nine passengers and still fit inside a regular garage. Interior ergonomics are outstanding, and a nice standard equipment list make it competitive with other full-size utes.
- Engine could use a bit more oomph
- Upshifts are rather abrupt and downshifts should happen a bit quicker.
- Even the optional 5.4-liter has difficulty accelerating beyond speeds of 70 mph. The transmission could also use some refinement

By OxfordDawg - July 14 - 2:00 amWe just purchased our 97 EB and drove it from SD to Mississippi. It drove great but got about 14 mpg at 75 mph. Smooth ride with lots of room. Take the 3rd seat out if you dont have a big family. Just too bulky to leave in. Lacks torque of Chevy engines. Opt for the 5.4L.

By JANRUS - July 12 - 2:00 amIVE HAD THIS TRUCK FOR 18 MOS. EACH MONTH SUMTHING ELSE GOES WRONG. MOST RECENTLY THE TIE RODS, LASTTIME THE AIR COMPRESSOR FOR THE AIR RIDE. BEFORE THAT THE WINDSHEILD LEAKED AND FRIED SOME ELECTRONICS ( TO THE TUNE OF 1800.00). CANT WAIT TO SEE WHATS NEXT. GUESS ITS A GOOD THINGWE PUT LESS THAN 200 MI. A WEEK ON IT.

Ford Tough - 1997 Ford Expedition
By GO PACK! - May 11 - 2:00 amI am approaching 200,000 miles... as the saying goes, "takes a licking, keeps on ticking"... thats my Ford. Tough truck. Ive put a few bucks into replacing parts here and there, but its expected at 200K miles! I highly recommend this tank.

Good SUV - 1997 Ford Expedition
By COramprat - April 21 - 2:00 amI have had my Expedition for 3 years now and havent have any major problems. I bought it used with 67K miles and have just turned 140K. We have been from our home in south Louisiana to northern Tennessee and it is my wife daily driver to work. To date I have replaced the shift cable and recently have had some emissions problems but other than that its a good vehicle.

Good/Bad - 1997 Ford Expedition
By Silat - February 17 - 2:00 amBought used w/33000 miles. Replaced engine at 107000. All kinds of minor electrical problems. Replaced heater core. Runs/rides great on highway. Snow no problem. Great visibility 360 degrees. Wife loves it.

Best Ive owned - 1997 Ford Expedition
By djcash2000 - January 31 - 2:00 amI have owned this vehicle from 37000 miles till 112000 and this has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. The only issues that I have had was the window dropped inside the door right after I bought it, but the dealership fixed it. Recently I had to put on an alternator. Otherwise I have only changed the oil. No plug changes, or anything. It has 2 wheel drive, all wheel drive and of course high and low 4 wheel drive. The truck has held up wonderfully and is just about as tight as when I bought it. I now have a 5000lb camper and the truck is rated to pull it. It just has too hard a time getting up to speed, even with the 5.4 titan.

By jeff vandeventer - January 28 - 2:00 amGreat all around vehicle. Good power, excellent handling, good brakes, great comfort. The only down fall is less than great gas mileage, but it is not awful. Great traveling vehicle with excellent four wheel drive capablities.

Good Solid Vehicle - 1997 Ford Expedition
By Shelli917 - October 27 - 2:00 amWe have had this vehicles for over 6 years and it has been a solid, reliable vehicle. The only thing that has ever gone wrong is that it needed a new alternator about a year ago and the rear differential sensor required replacement.
