This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Second Ford - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

This has been my 2nd Ford which I purchased used. So far it has been a good vehicle. The only issue I have is with the CD changer and playing my pc created cds. I planned on changing the radio so this is not a big deal to me. The 03 has the same turning radius that my 98 Explorer had so its really no different in driving it. The rear sonar is a big help when backing up and parking.

  • So Far So Good - 2003 Ford Expedition

Bought new. Was looking for large SUV versitile enough to haul people and stuff with good value. No major complaints, handles well. Very comfortable and great for long trips.

  • Front Seats E. Bauer - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Vehicle is great. Much better than old design, Bur front seat is not designed coeerctly for a tall driver. Have had nothing but lower back pain since I bought it. My old E Bauer was very nice. I wish I had the old seat back. Take a long test drive before you buy.

  • REAR AXLE PROBLEM - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Beware! Drive your 2003 Expedition at 79 or 80 miles an hour and listen. You will hear a high pitch whine from the rear-end. I have had three, yes, three axles. All have had this problem. My new truck is still in the shop while Ford tries to find a fix. All of the 2003s at the dealership had the problem. They were trying to find one that did not make the noise. Drive yours and listen. Lets all make Ford fix this problem.

  • Tow the line - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

We are the second owners, with just under 70,000 miles on it. I am only writing this to help someone choose an excellent tow vehicle. We tow a 22ft travel trailer all over illinois, packed full with kids, pets and camping stuff. Extremely pleased with power and comforts on the road. We had an Expedition with the smaller v8 and it was not nearly as pleasing when we hit the open road. Zero mechanical problems as of yet, but its still low mileage to me. If your going to tow do not undersize your SUV or truck. That will definitely take the pleasure out of your travel.

  • Holds a load - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

It will hold a large family with ease-6 grandchildren and a 10 yr. old daughter- no problem -I could not imagine owning a vehicle with out a DVD player. Gas mileage has been averaging about 16 mpg. I was rear ended by a compact vehicle last year, it just bounced off, left me with a scratched bumper which their insurance paid for

  • somewhat happy - 2003 Ford Expedition

Overall this is a great family vehicle. The exterior look sold me on the purchase. The Eddie Bauer has many cool features, and the dvd system is great for the kids. The brake dust on the front tires sucks, and I could have done without the advance trac.

Vehicle is huge improvement over previous model, especially in ride & handling.

  • 03 Expedition - A great SUV - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

This is a great vehicle. We were looking at this truck and a Tahoe. The deciding factors were the rear suspension and the fold flat 3rd seat. It is alot more user friendy than the Tahoe. I like how it handles especially when pushed hard, nice flat driving repsonse for such a large vehicle. The engine is powerful and smooth and I think the interior has a far more quality feel to it than the domestic competion. If you are looking at a large SUV you owe it to yourself to test drive one.
