This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

This is the first Brand New vehicle I have purchased. The size fit my family perfect. Previous SUV was a 95 Explorer XLT, no problems. I have had a laundry list of problems. 1. Leak in cooling system. 2. Serpentine belt shreded. 3. Paint flaking off front bumper. 4. 4x4 not working property 5. Replace Muffler 6. Rear Vents squeek/gring when opening/closing. Nissan Pathfinder ARMADA here I come!

Incredible full size SUV. I love the style inside and out, only the Navigator looks better. Extremely roomy with the amenities of a luxury vehicle. It handles very well. I feel safe driving it.

Recently purchased new 03 Expedition XLT..am hugely impressed so far! Very well built truck, thoughtfully designed. Had a 98 Expedition(good truck as well) then traded it for a new Nissan Path- finder..always regreted that. Well, when it came time to trade in the Nissan i went straight to see newly revamped & highly acclaimed Expedition. I dont regret buying another one! Superb truck!

Two weeks after the purchase: Rear wiper no longer works Pax window didnt roll up. 2 coils had to be replaced four weeks after purchase: New battery. New alternator six weeks after purchase: "CD Error" on CD player This truck is more trouble than its worth. Why cant the local dealership fix it right. It seems they plan these breakdowns to get more money. One more thing goes wrong and I am selling the damn thing.

Our previous SUV was a 97 Tahoe LT. We test drove the 03 Tahoe and Suburban. 5 years ago the EXPY didnt hold a candle to the Tahoe, now its the other way around. The comfort of the interior and design engineering of the EXPY are GREAT! I thought the interior of the Tahoe was pretty confining and "cheesy".

This is my second Expedition and by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. Ive replaced all 4 rotors 3 times, both outside mirrors twice, 6 of the eight coils, backup sensors, the DVD system and winshield wiper/washer control. Gas mileage is unbelieveable, (9 city 12 highway.) The trade in for this clunker says it all 8500. The thing has depreciated $35000 in four years, yet Ive maintaned it by the book. Never again!

  • 1st Ford and last! - 2003 Ford Expedition

This is the first ford I have owned and will be the last. We purchased this car used 2 months ago and this is the 4th time it has been in the shop! First brakes and rattling, supposedly the rotors and brake pads were replaced but still extermly shakey. Twice the suv comepletly died on me while driving.I lost everything and had no power at all. Nearly was hit and had my children in the car! Now it is in the shop because cheap continental tires blew while driving 70 mph on the interstate and did extensive damage to the body of the car. I am fixing this suv and cutting my losses! there is no way I would ever endanger my family by putting them in this vehcile ever again! BEWARE!!!

I had been shopping for a Cadillac Escalade but the power folding third row seat ads on TV caused me to stop at the Ford dealership. I test drove a Laser Red fully-equipped Eddie Bauer and ended up buying it. Its got more equipment than the Cadillac, for a lot less $$$. I love the ride, and the steering and braking are in a different league from the GM products.

Man, I love this car. Only had one hickup with it, car wash screwed up headlight, water got in, took it back to Ford, replaced it no questions. First week we had it we drove to Vegas, there were six of us in the car. Man, this thing gets along for its size, that much I can tell you. I get to go in lots of new trucks, Im a photographer and everyone I know has Yukons, Tahoes or Escalades and they are all as impressed with my car as I am. LOVE IT!!!
