This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

Great car/truck. Have put on 4,500 miles both in-town and on the road. Not one problem, fun to drive. Great room for a large family of big people. i am 64, 300 lbs and find it the most comfortable ride i have experienced in 20 years (of course I wasnt 300 lbs all those years either).

This truck is a lot better than its predecessor. The improved styling is really nice. The interior comfort has really been increased and it is a lot more functional.

Prior to buying this vehicle we explored all other competition. It wasnt even close. We have a family of five and tow a 23ft boat. This vehicle is well built, roomy, quiet and handles better than any vehicle this size. Many others complain about the mileage, however, by avoiding jack rabbit starts we average 16/17 in mixed driving with the 5.4 engine.

I just traded in my 1999 XLT for a 2003 EB and I am extremely impressed with the overhaul. The fold down seat option is outstanding. The 4 wheel independent suspension in the 2003 has done more then give the 2003 a more car like ride. The leg room for the 3rd row is on par to most back seats in midsized sedans. The 300 watt, sub- woofer stereo that comes with the EB is one of the best factory installs Ive ever heard. Ford has also done a nice job in cutting down the road noise, at highway speeds, it is considerably quieter in the 2003 over previous years. For you gadget freaks, check out the heated/air conditioned seats.

I purchased an Eddie Bauer Expedition in April of 2003. It has over 76,000 miles and and has had only minor maintenance issues. Cant complain. It still rides and drives like it did when I first bought it. Gas mileage is the only draw-back.

Completely new underneath, great styling and improvements, inside and out. Great handling and cornering. Plenty of space inside, especially with the power fold rear seat down.
