This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

Overall this vehicle is outstanding! Although compared to the Toyota like vehicles the fuel milage for the Expidition is not near a good. This is being compared to the same size engine and similar weight vehicle.

  • Had to get rid of! - 2003 Ford Expedition

Hated to do it, but after numerous problems with the 4wheel drive not disengaging, I had to get rid of my vehicle. I loved that SUV, and had owned the first 1996, absolutely loved it, too. Very disappointed in Fords "focus" on correcting my problem after my trying to resolve the situation since 2 weeks after I purchased. Only kept vehilce for 2 1/2 months! Regret the problems, and regret having to go to a GM product! Could not stand the brake dust all over wheels, and down side of truck...espcially a white one!

  • Some cheese with that whine? - 2003 Ford Expedition

Rear end whines between 50-60 MPH, excessive wind noise, passenger side window. All other aspects are great, e- mail me if you have the same problem and lets get Ford to fix.

We went shopping for a Toyota Sequoia and ended up buying a Ford Expedition. The two primary reasons for NOT buying the Sequoia were its 3rd row seats and NO LUMBAR SUPPORT for either front seat. The Ford excels over the Toyota in these two areas, as well as having a better ride. Having 4 kids, we needed all the neat seat configurations available in the Expy. If you have one in a car seat, Ford made the center seat on the 2nd row just for that. It slides forward 11 inches to bring the little munchkin right up between the drive and passenger. Which reminds me of the ONLY OPTION on ours; captains chairs up front (because we didnt need seating for 9).

Great tow vehicle, very comfortable and pleased with truck. this is my 5th Ford SUV( 4 Explorers. Front axle replaced at 10k, roof rack collapsed and Ford declined to fix, may be time to switch back to GM.

Priced my XLT Premium 4X2 4.6L using Edmunds, and ended up with perhaps the best, easiest, and fastest buying experience Ill have for a long time. After 4 months of waiting on our special-ordered 02 Honda Odyssey, the 03 Expy rolled out and it was the next best buy (better?) after researching it. 2nd & 3rd row seats fold flat, standard towing, BIG engine, lots of room, highly competitive, price-wise and feature-wise, against any minivan on the market. Even side running boards are standard. Fuel Consumption? Check rates on 03 Expy XLT Prem 4X2 4.6L versus 02 Honda Osyssey EXL-RES, and what you pay in gas you save on insurance. EVEN TRADE OFFS.

Outside mirrors too big. Style too boxy. Overall quality good. Performance sluggish. Overall ride has improved from last year.

MY RED EDDIE BAUER IS AWESOME! MY WIFE AND FAMILY LOVE IT. ALTHOUGH ITS GAS MILEAGE SUCKS, IT HAS MANY SAFETY AND COMFORT DETAILS. THE DVD/TV KEEPS THE KIDS NICE AND QUITE. TAKE IT ON A LONG TRIP & YOU REALY APPRECIATE IT. I LEASED IT WHEN THE LEASING DEALS WERE NOT TOO GOOD. NOW THEY ARE GREAT. ITS A LOOKER , HEADS TURN, ITS SAFE AND COMFORTABLE AND VERSITLE.
