This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Finally Good - 2003 Ford Expedition

I purchased it new in Dec. of 2002. I had lot of problems. By 5,K miles I was on my thrid set of tires. The tires were cupping, aka "road force". Basically the tires are cheap Continental tires, and they cant hold the weight of the Expedition. So you get vibration. Ford paid for the replacement tires. When I had to take it in for a thrid time I refused to take it back unless they put on a different brand. I got Michelin tires. Good to go..I had troubles with brake dust & squeeking. At 20K miles Ford paid for all new rotors, calipers, and pads. WAHOO. The dust is GONE. I had to get the rear axle replaced as well. I think it is good to go now with 34K on it no problems. Knock on wood.

This is a good truck for the money, compared to other makers. Nice interior design and easy accessibility. Responsive steering and smooth ride.

  • just o.k. - 2003 Ford Expedition

This is my 4th suv. It drives like a box on wheels. The brake dust is really bad on the front wheels. You really have to punch it to get going from a dead stop and the gas mileage is poor especially when using the A/C. I have had it in the shop once already for the air conditioner.

The 03 Ford Expedition is awesome. I had a 00 Expedition Eddie bauer, but really liked the silver birch metallic XLT Premium. THe new headlights are definitely cool and the handling are very noticeable improvements. The new styling is also an improvement.

Very comfortable ride. Great on long trips. With third seat folded down there is lots of room behind the second row. Great acceleration. Rides great on the highway and traction was good during the winter months.

With a 57" tall wife, 3 large growing boys and a big, dog theres plenty of room. Agile for its size. Surprisingly better gas mileage than I expected. Dont like the cheap factory brake pads. Dusted constantly and had to replace front at 28,000 miles.

  • Replaced my Windstar - 2003 Ford Expedition

6000 miles, looks great, accelerates & handles well, brakes are fantastic, nice turning radius, Advance Trac is super in snow and ice, 15.5 mpg combined, good interior layout, great highway cruiser. Tows well-11 mpg w/4000# boat. Reliability-Rear axle seal leak/fixed; front tire wear/realigned, Axle whine 52-62 mph/not fixed-Ford service bulletin to replace driveshaft-no fix, Dealers been great-Fords another story - say they are working on it, 4 months no fix in sight.

  • Give Me a Brake! - 2003 Ford Expedition

My 2003 EB Expedition is a wonderful vehicle! However, Ford does not seem to want to take responsibility for the poor brake design on these models. If you have ever noticed the excessive brake dust on the front wheels of many 03 Expeditions - it causes a problem with the pads and rotars. I was told by the mechanic at Ford dealer to keep my wheels cleaner and would not be a problem. I wash the car every week and seems to still be a problem. Perhaps, Ford should admit the errors of their ways and help out those that spend $35K+ on a "Luxury SUV".

I drove my expy from la-las vegas and it was nice and smooth if you are running 70 miles an hour constantly on a minor or flat slope...i tried to push it to run 90 miles per hour and maybe averaged about more than 80 mph all the way and i think the 4.6 liter, which I have, is needing more power going up the hills at 15 freeway. Avoid the 4.6 and upgrade to 5.4 liter.
