This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

Very nice design but I learned never to purchase the first year after a remodel. Have had several things replaced that I would not expect to have replaced on a new vehicle. Dealer is so-so with their support. Would not replace the brake pads, but they replace the rotors once and resurfaced the rotors the second time. The problem was with the pads and after 25,000 miles, I replace the rotors and pads with Brembo rotors and ceramic pads. What a change. The brake dust is gone. Repaired a short in the system, front headlight seal was bad, replaced the steering wheel due to poor leather, the front seat replaced due to the wear of the leather. All in all, will trade in for a new one.

  • Eddie Bauer Expedition - Great Vehicle! - 2003 Ford Expedition

My 2003 Ford Eddie Bauer Expedition is the most comfortable vehicle Ive ever owned (out of 20+ vehicles lifetime purchases). The ride is smooth, power & acceleration is plentiful, and comfort/amenities are a treat. I put all 33k miles on it since purchased new and Ive never had maintenance problems. After recent tire replacement with Michelin, the ride even got better ... its a keeper!

  • Best SUV Ive ever owned - 2003 Ford Expedition

Ive been driving SUVs since 1973. My first was a GMC Jimmy. All have been 4x4 since then and Ive had seven in all since 73, mostly GM products. This Ford Expedition has absolutely topped em all. It is very comfortable, handles great and turns much better than my last SUV Tahoe. Third third row seat ROCKS. The independent suspension is da bomb shizzle! I now have 110,000 miles with only one minor problem ... the rear AC went out. Other than that this SUV has given NO problems.

I have had nine Suburbans over the years starting in 1970 and this is a nice change. Pulling power has been great, body tight, comfortable.

After 200 miles there was a rattle under dash. It took ford two days to locate and repair. Gas average after 2000 all highway driving was 15.1 to 18.9 going from California to Indiana

  • Excellent Choice! - 2003 Ford Expedition

Whoa! We did our research, test drove the Tahoe, Sequoia and were SOLD on this SUV! The folding FLAT third row seats are the show stoppers. Also love that you can be comfortable ANYWHERE you sit from drivers seat to third row! Not so in the Tahoe or Sequoia...knees come up to chin in third row seat! Another biggie...safety factor..kids can exit the third row without help! Handles are very user friendly. Great family vehicle. Get a splitter from Radio Shack and 4 or more can listen to a movie while you drive to your favorite CD playing up front!! Took a 17 hour road trip and LOVED it in this SUV. It ranked up there with flying FIRST CLASS!

  • I too Have Vibrations in the drive train - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

I took this vehcle to the dealer on two or three occassions for vibrations at 45 to 50 mph. They checked front end alignment, tire balance, the vehicle still has the vibrations. I even wanted to try new tires but Ford has refused saying nothing is wrong with the tires or drive train I too am thinking of submitting a request for arbitration under the Lemon Law. I have found that Customer Service from the corporate office, customer service and local dealer to be disgustingly indifferent about my unhappiness in the vehicles ride at those speeds.

You can fold down the two outer seats in the second row even with a child car- seat in the middle position! I wanted something with three rows and large towing capacity, but still smaller than a suburban (its got to fit in the garage!)

  • I was sure I was going to own a Tahoe - 2003 Ford Expedition

I wanted the 2002 Chevy Tahoe. But my wife suggested we test drive the new Expedition. Externally I thought the truck was better looking then the old style but still not as good looking as the Tahoe. But the interior sold me. I loved not having to take out the third row of seats and that at 61 my knees werent up to my ears when I sat in the third row. Then with the conversation mirror and the flexible seating arrangments plus the ride quality I was hooked.
